Yes, although I prefer Clemence and Clementine (not helpful Smile)

Clementine is much better than clemency.

Clemency makes me think of Death Row and court rooms.

Yes, death row here too.

Clementine makes me think of oranges and also everyone will pronounce it different: teen or tyne.

Prefer Clemency.

Clemency makes me think of Clem from the Chalet School books. I think the death row connection (which I have to say I'd never heard of) will hardly be a big deal in the UK, if that's where you are.

It's a lovely name.

Nope, like PPs it reminds me of prisoners being granted clemency.

I know of a fairly senior barrister with the name Clemency. Suited her nicely.

I am a lawyer myself. I just like how it sounds.

Clemency is in the US for prisoners. I have never heard it used here in the UK in my profession.

Here we call it mitigating factors. So not an issue really.

But more people watch American TV shows than they read Chalet School books.

Op it's up to you, it's your child.

I prefer Clemence and Clementine.

They'll all inevitability be NN'd Clemmie, which I'm not keen on.

I love it.

Clementina is a nicer variant than Clementine, I think, no tangerines. Clemens, Tina, Ina, Al possible nns.

The Death Row connection that I mentioned is through American TV shows and movies. (Trying to prove someone on Death Row shouldn't be executed as a plot line)

I think Clemency is lovely. Sweet and pretty in a sort of grown-up way. I actually really like Clem as a nickname too, but most seem to hate it.

Clemency feels a lot more sophsticated and less trendy than Clementine to me.

What do you think of Cicely/Cecily? I especially love the former.

Stevefromstevenage · 30/08/2016 19:48

Definitely death row here too.

I love Clemency, I wouldn't do the Death Row association at all. I like Clementine also , but only with the teen ending, not tine.

Queen, Clemency is a beautiful name.
I have never heard of it before, very classy.

Love it.

I like Clemency... REALLY like it. But for reasons stated above would you consider Clemence? It's a "normal" French name (see: Clémence Poèsy) but to Anglicise remove the accent?

Honeybee79 · 30/08/2016 20:22

I like it. Clementine just makes me think of citrus fruit!

Alisvolatpropiis · 30/08/2016 20:39

No.

Clemency is something you ask for.

Hope and Faith are also things you have and feel but are names.
