Girls name dilemma. Opinions please!

Hello everyone! I could really do with some honest opinions please, if you'd be so kind.

My husband and I are expecting our first child but we don't know if it's a boy or a girl. I have a girls name in mind that I love and am biased towards but he (perhaps rightly?) is less keen on it: Clio or Cleo.

I think it's adorable but, although he agrees it is a nice name, he thinks any girl with that name would be teased for all eternity for being named after a Renault Clio! What do you think? If you heard that as a girls name would that be your first thought?

Just a bit of background, I was really into my Greek mythology in school and Clio was the muse of history. Cleo is short for Cleopatra as we all know and she was pretty cool too! I definitely prefer the 'Clio' spelling and meaning though.

I don't like the clio spelling. I would go for cleopatra and have Cleo. I like the name.

If you spell it Clio people will think of the car.
Sorry

I think it's a gorgeous sounding name, but unfortunately ruined by the car, so I wouldn't use it.

I feel the same way about the name Flora, but obviously ruined by margarine rather than a car Sad

the thing is a lot of objects in the media are name after mythological figures. Bullies will bully regardless they dont need a reason.

I really don't think it's an issue. I love Cleo!

I think the Cleo spelling is fine. I agree that Clio might make people think of the car.

I disagree completely with Mangoon regarding Flora and I know several Floras.

My DD went to nursery with a Cleo and I have a DN with that name. I think it's lovely but needs to be spelt Cleo. I understand the background and why you like the Clio version but to the majority of people it is the car. It would be much easier in your future DD to be Cleo.

Clio is a car. It's a pretty name, but you will get very bored with explaining to people that you haven't named her after a car.

Hmmm I would probably think of the car first too, especially spelt Clio... There are other lovely Ancient Greek names though. How about:

Persephone
Andromeda
Ariadne
Xanthe
Cassandra

I'd go with Cleao to avoid car connotations.
LOVE it! Classy and unusual without being too out there.

CLEO! Not Cleao. Typo.

To add to the consensus Cleo is much much better than Clio. It even looks nicer to me. And the car thing was my first thought too.

Ok I'm definitely convinced now. Cleo and not Clio (if I have a girl and the husband agrees!).

Thank you very much everyone for being honest and for your help! Smile

On a small side note, what does everyone think of the name 'Corsa'? lol only joking! Grin

Clio is synonymous with the car I'm afraid.

Clio is the latinised form of Kleio which is derived from Kleos which means Glory. Cleo is also derived from Kleos.

Use the Cleo spelling, it doesn't remind people of a car.

I don't think you'd get bored of people asking if you named her after a car, because what kind of idiot would actually ask that? Confused Glad I don't know people like that!

Clio is a car, unfortunately, or it would be fabulous too.

It smacks of the 'named after where you were conceived' type name, I'd imagine you had sex in the back of a Renault.

Sorry.

I prefer Cleo

Love Cleo! Wouldn't use the Clio spelling though because of the car. But it's a fabulous name.
