Baby names

I'm really struggling with names

Hi, I'm pregnant with a little girl and I would like a name for her, before she's born. I've thought of a few, but nothing seems quite right. Blush

Can anyone offer some name advice?

Thanks for your suggestions. I do like unusual names. I don't like Charlotte, but I do like Charlie and Lottie. Haha.

Lily will be her middle name.

The ones on my shortlist are:

Atheni
Eleni
Helena
Louisa

Eleni is lovely.

My favourite girls name is Marianne.

I think names like Miriam and Anna are due a comeback.

Pamela is another one.

There's a whole baby names section OP, which will probably generate more replies. If you report your thread to MNHQ they'll move it for you! Congratulations btw.

@ lotsofdots Thank you. I've reported to ask them to move it. I'm sorry, I'm new to these sorts of places! BlushBlush

I don't mind Anna and it was originally on my list, but my partner's late sister is called that and I just don't feel quite right using it.

I do like Leia, too. I'm not sure if I'd be brave enough to use it though.

No need to apologise! The baby name topic is s busy one so you should get plenty of ideas there.

When you're trying out names say them aloud with the middle name, quite a few of the ones you like don't work well with Lily.

Report
TurtlesAreAwesome · 24/08/2016 23:24

None of them actually sound too good with Lily. Sad

OP, if you like Eleni, what about Eleri? It's a Welsh girl's name pronounced ell-AIR-ee (stress on second syllable). I'm Welsh but dislike most Welsh names - Eleri was one of the few I considered for my DDs.

TurtlesAreAwesome · 25/08/2016 17:30

It's funny you should suggest Eleri, actually, as a friend has a little girl called that. You can guess that she likes Eleni as a choice too! I really like Eleni, but I'm not sure if it's too 'out there'.

I like Freesia, that's quite nice. But I could see people getting the pronunciation wrong, what do you think? I couldn't use Sophia.

I do like Phoebe and was considering it for my list, but I'm really indecisive. Amber was on the list with my first, but I went off it big time after I met a nasty person with the name.

If you like Phoebe and Amber, do you like Hebe, rather unusual, and Ebony.
Also Elspeth, Maisie, Lyra or maybe, Eden.

What about Arianna if you like Anna but don't feel right using it?
or Sylvanna nn Sylvie

BikeRunSki · 25/08/2016 17:46

I really like selenium, but it's a bit of a mouthful in combination with Lily.

Report
TurtlesAreAwesome · 25/08/2016 18:35

Hebe, I'm not actually sure about that one. It does look quite cool, but not sure if my little girl will pull it off. I do like Maisie, but not sure if it's too common.

Sorry, choco, neither of those are my style.

It's hard work naming babies. Confused

Maybe, Heidi, Tess, Clover, Rena, Caroline, Josie or Rosalie.

Sorry to the last 2 posters, none of those suggestions are really my cup of tea. I like something with quite a soft sound, but a serious name.

I've added Freesia and Phoebe to my list Smile

What do people think of Athena? Everyone I've suggested it to seems to hate it, so I ended up just putting my original idea (Atheni) on the list.

If I was going to choose a 1st middle name for a name with an 'ee' sound at the end, what would you suggest? Smile

Well, I think Phoebe Athena works well, or Freesia Elouise perhaps.
