Any possible thoughts on this name please?

Thank you!

Gmbk Tue 23-Aug-16 21:04:02

Have you used an alternative spelling for a cultural reason?

pennyunwise Tue 23-Aug-16 21:04:25

Younique spelling for Benedict.?

piglover Tue 23-Aug-16 21:04:54

Nice name - not so keen on that spelling.

pennyunwise Tue 23-Aug-16 21:05:08

Unless you're Polish or something I suppose.

Chottie Tue 23-Aug-16 21:05:23

Please just nooooo!.......

Lionnn Tue 23-Aug-16 21:05:50

Yes @Gmbk - we are Polish

ThoraGruntwhistle Tue 23-Aug-16 21:06:16

Oh good lord no. Spelled normally it's quite nice though.

BubsAndMoo Tue 23-Aug-16 21:07:12

Please don't do that to a child

(assuming it is a made up spelling and doesn't have a cultural explanation)

DownWithThisSortaThing Tue 23-Aug-16 21:07:13

It's a nice name but the spelling's a bit try hard and your child would have a lifetime of having to spell his name out or correcting spelling which would get irritating as everyone will assume it's Benedict.

ThoraGruntwhistle Tue 23-Aug-16 21:07:33

Ah, if it's an alternative spelling in Poland then fair enough. I thought you had made it up, sorry.

Madbengalmum Tue 23-Aug-16 21:07:59

Hate the spelling, sorry

QuestionableMouse Tue 23-Aug-16 21:08:57

I read it as bendy kit. I'm not sure that's what you're going for.

DownWithThisSortaThing Tue 23-Aug-16 21:09:40

Oh sorry - is it a Polish spelling? I didn't realise - never seen it spelt like that before.

Lionnn Tue 23-Aug-16 21:09:54

Sorry, I really should have put it in the original post. It's the Polish spelling. So I guess I'm just looking for opinions on Benedict/Benedykt

whifflesqueak Tue 23-Aug-16 21:10:10

I know one.

he's Polish. his hobbies are reading and being polite.

he's dreamy.

SirNiallDementia Tue 23-Aug-16 21:10:49

I really like the name Benedict (and as you are Polish, it would be appropriate to use the Polish spelling!). Just beware that english people might want to pronounce it Ben -eh- dykt instead of Ben- eh - dikt just because of how it's written.

Gmbk Tue 23-Aug-16 21:10:57

If you are Polish then go for it.

Odd question but do you have an obviously Polish surname? If not then people may assume it's a unique spelling.

Mummyshortlegz Tue 23-Aug-16 21:11:52

It's a lovely name, people may not realise the spelling is Polish and you may have to correct it but that is up to you as to how bothered you are by that.

honeysucklejasmine Tue 23-Aug-16 21:12:14

There's a lot of threads around here lately where the OP announces an unusually spelt name, let's people comment, and then reveals it's actually the correct spelling in a different country, that they are from.

Is it so hard to say "Hi. We're thinking g Benedykt. We're Polish and we'd like to use the traditional Polish spelling."?

You might get good quality replies immediately then.

Somerville Tue 23-Aug-16 21:12:14

As you can see, OP, to English people it looks like a made-up spelling of Benedict. grin

But it has a nice sound, and Benedict XVI serving as Pope so recently, plus Benedict Cumberbatch, means Benedict is relatively common around where I live. Most people would be able to get their heads around Benedykt, but you'll got lots of misspellings.

Buttwing Tue 23-Aug-16 21:12:24

I love the name it was on my short list for both my boys spelt benedict but we are not polish.

anorakgirl Tue 23-Aug-16 21:12:54

Benedict is lovely. Not so sure about Benedyct but if it is a traditional spelling in your culture go for it!

exWifebeginsat40 Tue 23-Aug-16 21:12:56

I think it's fab.

red faces all round, eh?

Somerville Tue 23-Aug-16 21:13:26

his hobbies are reading and being polite.

Dream man potential, indeed.
