Not yet TTC so this is a wee bit premature but interested in feedback on some girls names that we like (we have a boys name pretty much decided).

Carys or Charis

Thanks :-)

Elowen - love this
Elodie - really like it
Kate - find it really dull
Carys or Charis - dislike this one
Romilly - dislike it, makes me think of Rommel

Elowen and Elodie are beautiful.

Kate would be a nice middle name.

Don't like Carys or Romilly.

Kalispera Wed 17-Aug-16 22:35:18

I'm biased towards Kate. You'd be surprised how unusual it is, and how often people comment kindly on it.

shaggedthruahedgebackwards Wed 17-Aug-16 22:36:03

1. Romilly - lovely
2. Carys - lovely too but not keen on alternative spelling
3. Kate - Classic strong name
4. Elodie - nice but overused in past 5 years or so
5. Elowen - I'm not keen although don't hate it - sounds a bit made up

LOVE Romilly!

StormyTeaCup Wed 17-Aug-16 22:58:05

Thanks everyone

ineedamoreadultieradult Wed 17-Aug-16 23:04:48

Elodie - love it
Elowen - nope
Romiley- like it
Kate - ok but dull
Carys- nope

Overthinker2016 Wed 17-Aug-16 23:06:39

Kate is classic. Katie is also pretty cute as a nice name.

wobblywonderwoman Wed 17-Aug-16 23:09:08

Kate or Cary's

Eloise is also lovely

CancellyMcChequeface Wed 17-Aug-16 23:39:41

From your list I like Romilly, Carys and Charis. Kate is boring on its own, sorry!

Nospringflower Wed 17-Aug-16 23:42:27

Like Kate and Carys (although not sure what is correct spelling.

Not keen on anything that can be shortened to Ellie.

Romilly is ok.

StormyTeaCup Wed 17-Aug-16 23:57:08

Thanks everyone.

Carys is Welsh and Charis is Greek. Different names but pronounced the same.

DH's favourite is Elowen. I love it too but am a bit worried about pronunciation. The correct pronunciation is eh-LOH-en, but i think most people would go for EL-o-wen. Don't want to pick a name that is a PITA!

Sophronia Thu 18-Aug-16 00:07:49

I like Kate, Elowen and Carys.

MarriedinMaui Thu 18-Aug-16 00:09:26

Is Elowen welsh? I like it but have never heard it before. What does it mean?

StormyTeaCup Thu 18-Aug-16 00:10:29

It's Cornish and means Oak

StormyTeaCup Thu 18-Aug-16 00:12:28

Actually it means Elm. Just checked again. Oak...elm. Close enough! grin

Alisvolatpropiis Thu 18-Aug-16 00:26:22

Love Elowen and Carys.

I would probably go with the latter spelling rather than Charis because it is (just about) more well known in the UK so people will probably expect that spelling, might be a pain in the arse explaining repeatedly.

In saying that, I've known plenty of people struggle with other really simple Welsh names like Nia before, so Carys may well be similar.

Romilly Elowen and Carys are beautiful.

I used to love Elodie til my friend's DH kept thinking it was Aldi!!!

I'll never understand how Kate is so popular, it's boring and not a nice sound at all.

EllenDegenerate Thu 18-Aug-16 09:12:53

Love Romilly, I'll use it if this baby is a girl.

Hate Elodie, plus it's becoming very common around here.

Carys is nice, lovely meaning.

Elowen, not very keen but it's inoffensive and unusual.

I know too many Kate's. It's the name of a woman in her thirties and not yet due a revival. Katherine on the other hand is timeless.

CakeRattleandRoll Thu 18-Aug-16 10:44:41

1. Elowen - love it
2. Carys - and this one
3. Kate
=4. Elodie and Romilly

BendydickCuminsnatch Thu 18-Aug-16 11:36:25

Absolutely love Charis but don't think DH keen. Means Grace I think? Love, perfect.

Elowen is a bit earthy for my taste.
Kate is nice and I imagine a stylish, inoffensive grown up.
Elodie and Romilly a bit frilly for my taste.

wesH Thu 18-Aug-16 11:46:36

Elodie - One of my faves from your list. It just has a nice ring to it.

Elowen - I have a soft spot for names ending in 'wen'. Unusual but not so out-there that people will give you funny looks. A pretty OK name.

Romilly - frumpy name. Don't understand why its so popular on this site.

Kate - personally, I like it. It's simple, but you're not going to find a whole classroom full of them either. It's a name that really takes on the personality of the person it belongs to (as opposed to, say, Maisie or Molly, who'll struggle to suit their names if they're anything but cutesy little dolls)

Carys or Charis - not a fan
