Haidan or Hayden?

Hello Smile this is my 1st post! I'm due a little boy.

We have decided on Haidan Alexander/Hayden Alexander.

Which spelling? Haidan or Hayden. We like Haidan because it's the most understandable spelling really, as it's Aidan, with a H... However, I think Hayden is the most well known!

People will expect the Hayden spelling.

Congratulations.

I just read Haidan as Hy-Dan so not sure it is the most understandable!

I'd go Hayden if you don't want him being called Aidan all his life. At nursery there's a Hayden, Jayden, Brayden, Cayden and Aidan and it drives me nuts when my wee boy gets called the wrong name.

I'd pronounce Haiden as high dun and Hayden Hay dun. Which do you want?

Well neither if it was up to me but Hayden is the spelling people will assume and be able to pronounce without having to think about it/guess so I'd go with that to make your and ds's life easier.

Haydn is the correct spelling. Wink

I only know a Haydn.

People who are into classical music would pronounce Haydn as in the composer, so Hy-dun.

Hayden. I love this name and it was around (I think!) long before all the Jayden / Cayden crew!

I really like Hayden and would definitely spell it Hayden. Agree with pp that it's a different type of name to Cayden and Jayden. I suppose because it's a well known/traditional surname.

Haydn is pronounced Hi-den.

Hayden is pronounced (umm) Hay-den.

(I prefer the Hayden spelling, if that is the pronunciation you are going for, BTW.)

Hayden is in a completely different group to Jayden/Cayden

What are people's thoughts on the Haydon spelling?

Have never ever seen the Haydon spelling. He'd be in for a lifetime of explaining his name's spelling to everyone.

Hayden is the only spelling i've seen.

It's one of the surname spellings

Hayden or he will be forever correcting people.

Hate it.

Regardless of how ridiculous it looks, my brain wants to say hay-don.

leoniethelioness · 10/08/2016 11:13

Hayden if you want to pronounce it like Aidan with a H

unicornthong · 10/08/2016 11:47

Hayden. Please don't saddle your child (who will grow into an adult!) with a made up spelling that he will forever be correcting. Blush

Hayden is the nicest looking and most logical spelling. Lovely name too Smile

Or you could use 'Haydn' like the actress Haydn Gwynne (love her).

Haidan and haydon are unpleasant to the eye. Choose Hayden spelling if you like the name.
