So, you mean 2 or 3 syllables? :) I was trying to work out how to say it with one!

2 for me, although with a hint of that middle o

I say Vio-let rather than a big emphasis on Three separate parts Vi-o-let. I def hear the o when I say it.

3 but, like a pp, the middle o sound is very short when I say it.

3 vi-o-let.

Try and clap it. You can't do it with 2 beats.

3, of course.

It would drive me nuts if people said Vi-let.

I hear people saying Vi-let. I'm not sure what I'd do.

I thought, of course it's 3, lovely fragrant vi-o-let, vile-let would be horrid ... But then realised the latter is how it's often said.

Similar name without this issue, unambiguously 3 syllables, Viola ?

Three.
I would hate it spoken with two.
I think I'd go with Viola to ensure the three syllables! Grin
