Vi-o-let or Vi-let?

CremeEggThief Mon 08-Aug-16 17:22:47

Vi-o-let. 3 syllables.

SoupDragon Mon 08-Aug-16 17:23:15

So, you mean 2 or 3 syllables? smile I was trying to work out how to say it with one!

2 for me, although with a hint of that middle o

nopety Mon 08-Aug-16 17:24:31

Oops! I meant 2 or 3 grin

BendydickCuminsnatch Mon 08-Aug-16 17:26:23

3 but the middle one very soft/slight. Lovely name!

WhoTheFuckIsSimon Mon 08-Aug-16 17:26:33

2 for me.

babyblabber Mon 08-Aug-16 18:09:14

3. Vi-let?!!!

MrsGsnow18 Mon 08-Aug-16 18:42:39

I say Vio-let rather than a big emphasis on Three separate parts Vi-o-let. I def hear the o when I say it.

3 but, like a pp, the middle o sound is very short when I say it.

Smartiepants79 Mon 08-Aug-16 20:08:30

3 vi-o-let.

Smartiepants79 Mon 08-Aug-16 20:09:10

Try and clap it. You can't do it with 2 beats.

3, of course.

It would drive me nuts if people said Vi-let.

NataliaOsipova Mon 08-Aug-16 20:17:01

3 - definitely!

orangebird69 Mon 08-Aug-16 20:18:31

Er, 3. hmm

RoganJosh Mon 08-Aug-16 20:21:05

I hear people saying Vi-let. I'm not sure what I'd do.

ErrolTheDragon Mon 08-Aug-16 20:31:06

I thought, of course it's 3, lovely fragrant vi-o-let, vile-let would be horrid ... But then realised the latter is how it's often said.

Similar name without this issue, unambiguously 3 syllables, Viola ?

maggiethemagpie Mon 08-Aug-16 20:52:14

Three syllables, I pronounce it vi-a-lut

WanderingTrolley1 Mon 08-Aug-16 20:55:03

2. Vile-lut

Vi-let

Love it!

villainousbroodmare Mon 08-Aug-16 21:35:18

Three.
I would hate it spoken with two.
I think I'd go with Viola to ensure the three syllables! grin
