Gorgeous. I know one and she's beautiful.

Reminds me of the singer.

I like the sound of the name but can imagine an Aaliyah having their name's spelling mangled by every second person they meet.

It's a pretty name but has sad connotations for many. How about Thalia?

I love it.

I've known at least 5 or 6 Aaliyahs over the years

Spelt like that my first thought is the singer. Second thought is the Hebrew phrase "to make aliyah", which means to return to the motherland, ie, to move back to Israel. Either way it's a lovely name.

Pretty.

Personally it's not to my taste. I can't put my finger on why.

I wouldn't know how to say it

It's pronounced A-lee-a.

prettypinklady · 07/08/2016 17:53

I thought it was pronounced ah-lay-ah

Lots locally. Some using it as a name from their culture (is it Arabic in origin) , others... Definitely after the singer.

Not a fan. Bit naff. Was surprised when Katherine Jenkins chose it.

Definitely naff

Makes me think of the singer too but it doesn't put me off the name which is really pretty. Nns might end up being Ally (which I love) or Lia (which I'm not that keen on).

I love it. Prefer it spelt Aliya.
