Help name suggestions

Trying to pick some names - currently 21 weeks. I seem to have a much easier job of getting lots of boys names so I would really like some suggestions for girl names.

Front and only runner at the minute is Laoise (Leesha)

I also like but either can't use or DH doesn't like
Caoimhe (Keeva)
Olivia
Ava

And that's me stuck ... I never thought I would find it much easier to pick a boys name!

Any suggestions English or Irish would be so helpful.

(PS. If Irish I will be using Irish spelling so would appreciate no comments on that - thanks in advance)

I know

Eabha
Fionnuala
Aoife

Shame you can't use Caoimhe, it's such a pretty name

If I was Irish I would use Aine or Saoirse. Ava and Olivia are nice but quite dull in comparison!

Couple of other thoughts

Saiorse

I never know how to pronounce Irish names

Cora? Sorry don't know if there's an Irish spelling!

I love Ordhnaith or Sadhbh. Both really beautiful.

Love Laoise. It's beautiful. I also love Saoirse and Aisling.
Do you like Sylvia/ Sylvie?

My favourite Irish girl names are:

Sorcha
Bláthnaid
Orlaith / Orla

I really like Ava and Olivia too, though they are fairly well used. That wouldn't necessarily bother me tbh as every name I fall in love with seems to become popular eventually! Smile

How about:

Florence (again quite popular but very nice I think)
Flora
Aurelia
Imogen (think someone already suggested but it's nice)

Not sure that Caoimhe is pronounced Keeva. Isn't is Queeeva or Keefa?

Report
Blackpoollassy · 21/07/2016 09:20

oops sorry, just saw that you can't use it!

Blackpoollassy - I was awaiting for this to come up hahah

In Ulster Caoimhe is pronounced Keeva - I didnt realise until much later in life that elsewhere it is pronounced Qweva or Queeeva (I think we are trying to say the same pronounciation.

dontrocktheboat I probably would like Aine, only there were about 5 Aine's in my class in school, so it feels like an outdated name to me. There are also a lot of Saoirse's in Ulster (I think the meaning freedom might have something to do with that :-/) but my niece is called Saorlaith and it think its quite similar

sonlypuppyfat it doesn't matter that you dont know how to pronounce it - if you ask someone their name they will tell you it.
Just like if they have a Polish name, Asian name or elsewhere!

Also it doesn't necessarily have to be Irish - I just happen to like some of them. I am open to any name.

babynugget a friend had a baby 2 weeks ago and called her Cora! It hadn't even crossed my mind but when she told us the name I was disappointed as thought it was lovely haha

lokis I am going to add Ordhnaith - I haven't come across it - Orna?
Sadhbh - I had said no to it but I might add it back on the list.

Raines I dont like sylvia that much - I am glad you like Laoise though.

steviebuns my sister is having a baby a month before me and Bláthnaid is her girls name - i do love it though. Cousin just named her baby Orla and Sorcha is the girl who beat up a friend in high school LOL

Imogen is nice - added to the list

Gold I do like Eibhlin - added to list, I also like Aibhlinn

Thanks for all your help everyone - has definitely gave me some more to chew over!

I'm from Ulster too OP!

Fair enough not to use Sorcha then!!! Ah that's a shame about Bláthnaid and Orla. Glad you like Imogen. Smile
