Middle names for Lily

I am really stuck with what to do about our little girls name, I am due in 5 weeks. Last name is Hickman.

I desperately want to use Elizabeth as a middle name as its my nans name - she has been my absolute rock throughout my life. This middle name is pretty much non-negotiable and my partner is happy with that.

The problem is, my absolute favourite name is Lily, and we just can't have Lily Elizabeth, it sounds ridiculous. Sad The only way I can think of still using both names is to add another middle name in between (Lily blank Elizabeth Hickman) - but I cannot think of one at all! I don't want to use Grace or May/Mae which have been suggested many times. Would an extra name make it too long?

Our other option is Amber Elizabeth but I still prefer Lily - think partner likes both the same. I know Lily is a popular name but for some reason it just seems right to me.

Which names/combinations do you prefer and any recommendations for an additional middle name for Lily?

Please help :) TIA xxx

I love love love Amber Elizabeth. I'm 23 weeks at the minute and if mine is a girl she'll be Amber (and I actually want Elizabeth as well, DH is just taking a bit of persuading!) Lily is pretty but I personally wouldn't use it because of how popular it is around here at the minute. I can imagine there being at least 4 or 5 Lily's in every school class in our area!

Why is Lily Elizabeth Hickman ridiculous? It's a great name.

Lily is originally short for Elizabeth so why don't you just call her Elizabeth Amber and she can go by Lily?

I have a Lily and sometimes regret not calling her Elizabeth on the birth Cert.

I might be missing something, but I can't see anything wrong with Lily Elizabeth. It's lovely.

Lily Amber Elizabeth would work too.

I don't think Lily Elizabeth sounds bad at all but agree with pp if you're worried, take Elizabeth Hickman with no Lily.

I think Amber Elizabeth/ Elizabeth Amber sounds a bit clunky, Lily Elizabeth is far cuter.

Lily Elizabeth is absolutely fine.
Lily Amber Elizabeth is pretty.
I went to school with a girl who was Lily, short for Elizabeth ( actually short for Lilibet, short for Elizabeth- I believe this is the version the queen was known by as a girl), so Elizabeth Amber also works.

I think its because Lily can derive from Elizabeth and also so many L sounds!! Maybe I could use it, I'm not sure. I would like her to have her own name rather than being totally named after my nan, so wouldn't want her first name to be Elizabeth.

I do really like Amber Elizabeth, but it will be difficult to give up on Lily, even though I know its suuuuper popular (I did a placement in a primary school and there were 3 Lily's in the same class).

Thanks for the input :)

I would go for Amber Elizabeth but I don't like lots of names.

Thanks PointlessSmile
OP is Lily not named for the flower and Elizabeth a name from the Bible- a cousin of Mary, the mother of Jesus?
So two completely different names.
So go for it if you really want to. How often are middle names used anyway?
My middle name is on birth cert, on my passport and correspondence from the uni I went to.

I think Lily Elizabeth sounds lovely. Why do you think it's ridiculous? Am I missing something? Haha.

I know Lily is supposedly short for Elizabeth, but my name is Elizabeth and no one has ever shortened it to Lily (and I think if I tried to go by Lily, people would look at me like I have two heads). Just like it's not "the norm" to be named Henry and go by Harry now, or be named John and go by Jack. Most people will just use Harry or Jack if that's what they want their children to be called. So I don't think anyone will think Lily Elizabeth is strange. I think it's just gorgeous. Smile

Amber doesn't compare with Lily, IMO. It's not a bad name, but Lily is just beautiful.

Thanks for all of your input and suggestions! I'm just not a fan of all the 'L' sounds in Lily Elizabeth. Liz and Lil sound too similar.

What do people think of
Lily Jade Elizabeth Hickman
Lily Sophia Elizabeth Hickman

Are they too long? Which dyou prefer?

I also adore Lily Belle but too many 'L's again with Elizabeth!!xx

I don't love Jade... I do love Sophia but it's a bit long. Do you like Lily Grace Elizabeth? Or Lily Kate Elizabeth? A one-syllable middle name after Lily would suit (Jade just seems outdated).

Others:
Lily May Elizabeth
Lily Pearl Elizabeth
Lily Faith Elizabeth
Lily Hope Elizabeth
Lily Jane Elizabeth (similar to Jade, but more "classy" feeling)
Lily Quinn Elizabeth (for something a bit different)

The Queen's name as a child was Lilibet - short for Elizabeth. I can't help thinking the two names (Lily and Elizabeth) are the same a bit like calling a boy 'Jim James' or 'Edward Ted'.
Elizabeth as a first name but going by Lily like another poster suggested is best IMO!
