Storm or Texas??!!

I know they're unusual, but we like them both smile I prefer Texas and my partner likes Storm. Xx

I'd go back to the drawing board if I were you. Both are "trying too hard to be cool".

sonlypuppyfat Tue 28-Jun-16 09:01:59

No just no your having a child not an X Man

foreverandalways Tue 28-Jun-16 09:03:54

Please don't use either name. You have to remember this child will have to go through years of education and its life with the name you choose. Choose another name.

wobblywonderwoman Tue 28-Jun-16 09:06:57

Maybe give a more traditional name - they night sound funky but in reality very difficult for the child

Heatherbell1978 Tue 28-Jun-16 09:07:43

They're not names. One is a weather system and the other is a place in the USA where they like guns and oil. I'm assuming this is maybe a joke post?

Livvy79 Tue 28-Jun-16 09:13:18

Not a joke at all! I appreciate that they're not to everyone's tastes, so would appreciate any opinions from people who either like or prefer one name or the other. I'm 36, so I'm definitely past trying to be cool! grin Either name would fit very well into our family. This is a girl's name btw, the boy's name is already decided. Oh, and I've never seen X-Men hmm xx

Chottie Tue 28-Jun-16 09:15:19

IMO both names are a lot for a child to live with.

p.s. I thought this was a joke post at first too....

thisagain Tue 28-Jun-16 09:15:54

I considered the name Russell briefly until my sister said "Russell isn't a name, it's a noise!" I quickly went off it. Sorry but strongly dislike both names so couldn't even choose between them.

sonlypuppyfat Tue 28-Jun-16 09:16:31

I'm trying to imagine a shy girly girl introducing herself as Texas, it's awful just try and imagine applying for jobs etc with that name

MilkTwoSugarsThanks Tue 28-Jun-16 09:18:35

For a girl?

Christ alive - do you want the piss ripped out of her throughout her school life?

You're naming a person not a vanity project.

PaintedDrivesAndPolishedGrass Tue 28-Jun-16 09:20:41

Do you have a degree Op?

Heatherbell1978 Tue 28-Jun-16 09:24:09

Personally I prefer more traditional names but do like the odd unusual one. But these aren't unusual names, they're not names. Both of them would subject to girl to a life of ridicule. She won't be taken seriously as a lawyer (or many other professions) with a name like that so why set her off on the wrong foot before she's even started? Sorry but you asked for opinions so just being honest.

Livvy79 Tue 28-Jun-16 09:26:19

Wow!! Thanks for all the 'advice' and it's nice to know there's so many 'supportive' women out there! confusedconfused I won't tell you what the other 3 girls are called, but they all love their unusual names and have never had any problems smile

WellErrr Tue 28-Jun-16 09:28:36

This is a piss take, surely?

Mummamayhem Tue 28-Jun-16 09:28:47

Storms not that radical here. Texas is a bit wtf in my opinion out of the two storm definitely.

isthatpoisontoo Tue 28-Jun-16 09:29:14

I've met a Storm who loved her name. I prefer Storm, of the two, but maybe I must have bad perceptions of what Texas (the place) is like.

Bluesand1 Tue 28-Jun-16 09:35:52

Scarydinosaurs Tue 28-Jun-16 09:38:20

Storm is marginally better than Texas.

For me, storm has negative connotations, and Texas is a place infamous for gun crime and racism. Both Storm and Texas have positive connotations too- but the negative grossly outweigh them.

MadameJosephine Tue 28-Jun-16 09:38:42

If I had to choose from the 2 then it would be Storm. Tbh I don't really like either of them but it's not my baby though, if it fits with your other children's names and you like it then go for it. I guess it would be a bit odd if you already have children with unusual names and then called this one something 'normal'

phoolani Tue 28-Jun-16 09:40:02

I met a woman once whose name I misheard as Tex - I thought it was a great name! So Texas for me. Tho prefer Alabama if we're talking US states.

nectarini1983 Tue 28-Jun-16 09:41:52

Livvy79 - Ignore the haters! my children and I all have unusual names and all love them. I have a very successful career in business and if anything I think my name has always helped me stand out from the many Gemmas, Lauras and Sarahs (showing my age now!) So I think that argument is null and void. Amber Rudd isn't doing so badly for herself!

Either that or call her Isabella, Eve, Isla or on of the many yawnsome names out there and know she'll be one of many duplicates in her class.

I do like Storm but it's the 'stormy' connotations that put me off this slightly in favour of something more cheerful! How about Aurora, Savanna, Autumn? All nature type names.

Texas does make me think of chain saw massacre amongst other things. How about Tennesee, India, Paris, Sierra, Asia? There's loads of cool sounding places for names.

Good luck! X

Afreshstartplease Tue 28-Jun-16 09:43:49

I prefer Storm out of the two

WellErrr Tue 28-Jun-16 09:45:27

I used to have a horse called Storm.

rainbowstardrops Tue 28-Jun-16 09:47:18

I really don't like Texas. Sorry!

I like unusual names and I quite like Storm but maybe not for a girl. It's a bit heavy and negative sounding to me.

I like nature names though like Brooke, Autumn, Meadow etc.

It's your baby though OP! smile
