Baby names

Rose or Holly

Well I go for induction next thurs and we still can't agree on a name!

I would like Rose; hubby wants Holly. Hubby also likes Emily but I think it's too popular now and too similar to our DD1s name. We both liked Violet as a middle name but I am going off it as it is one of the names of my MIL and, well, enough said really Wink

Will Holly be a nightmare at school - esp at Xmas (I have a surname that I was teased for so am more sensitive to this)?

So Holly or Rose?? Or do we wait and after the horrors of childbirth I point out I should get more saySmile X

Rose is so timeless and beautiful. Not too sure on Holly sorry but love Violet

Violet as a first name would be best!

A friend's daughter is called Holly (now 11) and she hasn't had any issues as far as I know.

Having said that, I love the name Rose! That would probably be my choice or, failing that, Emily. (it's popular for good reason!)

I do like both but Rose is summer and Holly is winter to me. I think you may be overthinking the teasing, I really don't imagine it a particular risk.

I would be cautious though about using either with Violet, it seems odd that both names would also be exactly identical to nouns for plants/flowers. I would think that a much more likely avenue for teasing, so if you retain Violet, I'd suggest something that is definitely only a human name, like Rosa or Violetta instead.

I prefer Rose.

I wouldn't use Violet with either name though, too flowery.

I prefer Holly (or Emily) I don't like Violet, and Rose is just meh

I have known a lot of Hollys/Hollies and have never onces heard teasing over their names, even at Christmas.

The surname problem cannot be helped, but i have an awkward one too that needs to be spelt out each and every time, but Holly (Or Rose/Emily/Violet for that matter) are nice, normal, classic names that have very little teasting potential in my opinion.

I really love both those names!

Rose is lovely and timeless - you could have Rosie has a nickname and it's gorgeous for a person of all ages. Holly is cute. I wouldn't worry about teasing. I don't think the name as that potential. Violet is a strange one. I don't think it sounds particularly nice and it's really only one letter away from the word violent. I don't think I would pair either Rose or Holly with the middle name of Violet.

Holly is very popular here, I know 3 in dds stay and play. I do think it's a lovely name though.
Rose is beautiful too, good choices.

Rose is a lovely name, it conjures up beautiful images and scents. Prickly green Holly on the other hand......

Rose is so much prettier than Holly I think. And love Rosa even more (but not Rosie!)

Rose is sooo lovely. Holly has negative associations (for me personally). And Rose is just sooo timeless and pretty!!!

Rose Emily would be lovely. Rose or Holly Violet would be veery plant-y...

I prefer Rose. That's probably just because I knew lots of girls called holly at school and it reminds me of them. I don't know if it's still as popular now though.

Holly-Rose?

I'm biased - my daughter is a holly and born at Christmas - no other holly in the school and we worried because we both have unusual names but I love it. Her middle is Ursula meaning little bear in polish. Hol to me is a strong and contemporary name she will wear well. X

I'm a Holly and my favourite name is Rose.

I've always loved being a Holly. I still meet little ones called Holly, don't think it will be dated to a specific period.

My Holly is 18 and a may baby. She's never been teased.
I think Holly Rose sounds nice.

DS would have been Holly if he was a girl and DNeice is Rose.

Holly doesn't work with Violet as Holly is most definitely green. I'm sure you can get violet roses though.

Holly Rose sounds pretty but I'm not sure about the two plants together.

I'm not a fan of Holly and especially not when used for a summer baby.

Rose is pretty, but a bit ordinary, would you consider Rosalie or Rosamund, both prettier than Rose I think.
