Apparently it's more common as a boys name, but there were only three baby boys given the name in 2013.

I know it's a place. Is it weird? (I'm not really sure why I like it) but I really do.

BitchPeas Wed 22-Jun-16 20:23:37

I live right next to it. So I really wouldn't. It's not terrible just a bit blah. Sorry!

Makes me think of that painting of maddening neverending staircases, think the artist was Escher? I would google but i'm on my awkward-as-arse phone.

Nooo, it's a place in Surrey!

Yep, station between Hersham and Surbiton on the mainline into Waterloo! Weird.

Never heard of neither gender?

When i first read it, i thought it said Esther.

I like Aster, which is similar?

It's a place isn't it? Not keen. I live quite near an Ashton though and people are called that, so...

Don't name your child after a dull as shite commuter town

What about Esther? Aster? Astrid?

Or at a stretch, Guildford? grin

idontlikealdi Fri 24-Jun-16 13:43:29

Looks like Esther misspelt

crabb Fri 24-Jun-16 13:43:34

I know of an Eshton (boy).

ijustwannadance Fri 24-Jun-16 13:47:07

Were you a fan of the tv series Continuum?
Only place I have ever heard it.

JaneAustinAllegro Fri 24-Jun-16 13:47:30

It's hebrew, no? YOu'll get everyone pronouncing it as the Surrey footballer friendly town, and not Esh - er.
I guess it's better than Oxted.

BertrandRussell Fri 24-Jun-16 13:49:33

Ds has a friend called Escher. And we know an Asher.

But Esher is a not very nice town.

DetestableHerytike Fri 24-Jun-16 22:47:29

What about Ashley? That can be boy or girl.

Littlegoat123 Fri 24-Jun-16 22:49:41

My daughter is Esther and she is 6, and I get lovely comments about her name...I think esher will be too easily confused with Esther ...not good if you have a boy he will not thank you for it

CanadaMoose Fri 24-Jun-16 23:38:50

There are two Eshers at the nursery I teach in, both girls.

DetestableHerytike Sat 25-Jun-16 05:50:33

Ah yes, I've met an Esha (girl)

Bigfam Sat 25-Jun-16 06:38:40

DetestableHerytike didn't think of spelling it that way, seems obvious now, that's got to be the easiest way to pronounce it right.

ScoutandAtticus Sat 25-Jun-16 06:42:46

As long as you don't live near the town.
