Celeste

My DH's suggestion, it's growing on me but it's not a name I would have though of

Absolutely lovely, pretty and unusual - it didn't work with our surname otherwise would have been high on our shortlist.

It's nice but I automatically thought of that pop duo Daphne and Celeste from the 90's

Had that one hit shit wonder "oo stick you"

Try not to overthink Facewipe, everything rhymes with something (unpleasant) if you think long enough! I know you want something perfect with nothing that can possibly take the shine off it (I did Smile) but sooner or later, especially on here, someone will say it sounds like x, or it reminds them of a horrible kid at school, or it's the same name as an axe-murderer or whatever...in our case DH thought it was funny to sing a horrid rhyme a week after we'd named DS - I got in a complete panic about him being bullied at school, and had to speak severely to myself to stop from changing his name! If you love a name then try not to take on other people's worries about it unless they really spoil it for you.

It makes me think of the ship, so I wouldn't use it.

Sad name. I think it was a sad instrument in a cartoon when I was a kid.

Beautiful! Feminine but not overly girly. Love the meaning, and it's not a name I hear very often.

It automatically makes me think of the Marie Celeste

If it didn't have that connection it would be a pretty name

I like it.

I only know one. She spells it Celest which I actually prefer though I don't know if it's correct. She has a mixture of Italian and Central American heritage which might explain the spelling choice, not sure.

Thanks all, I hadn't considered the Mary Celeste reference.
You're right Peach you can spend forever thinking of negative connotations with every name, I don't know any Celeste's in RL thought I should hear the worst before we decide!
Mavis was the cartoon Tubby the Tuba by any chance?
