Francesca - love it.
Charlotte - really like it
Eliza - it's ok but not especially keen
Jane - too plain. Makes a good middle name
Madeleine - really like it
Emmeline - quite like it. Unusual.

Some great suggestions - thank you!

I like Eleanor, Eloise and Matilda but DH vetoed Matilda.

We need a name that doesn't sound awful in French or in an American accent which bumped Eleanor down the list.

I think I tend toward longer formal names with nicknames with the exception being Isla.

Also added to the list is Elaine nn Lainey

Clementine has really grown on me but DH would take convincing. Not sure about naming a child after a fruit.

Agree re Elaine being old fashioned (I'd actually call it more 40s and 50s?)

I like Lainey though

How about Elina, Eliana, Elianne, Lana or Lena?

Elaine is my aunt - born in the 50s. Lena was my grandmother and I adore the name but I'm hesitant to have two L names. Luc and Lena sounds too twee.

When I was very early in my pregnancy I dreamt quite vividly that I gave birth to a hippopotamus that we named Philomena Flump. DH has now taken to calling the bump Philomena and wants to use the name! I don't think she'd thank us for it.

I read a fantastic series where one of the main characters was called Elayne, would that spelling take the 70's edge off the name?

Meredith?
Martha?

Clara

Love Clara but it's just awful when pronounced with an American accent. It comes out as ClaiRe-a.

DH thinks Elena sounds Russian?
