Boy, there is a girl in ds class called Alix and I think this spelling is even more masculine so was surprised to discover it belonged to a girl.

Thanks everyone, it's my DC's name, we wanted an androgynous name and it was between Alex and Jamie, Pax, Billy, Rae or Taylor. The choice was the right one and I love it am just surprised at assumptions I've encountered when they haven't been wearing their allocated gender colour ;)

I think of it as both. I know more male Alexes, so that would be my initial assumption ( if I was told someone's name before meeting them in person) but I certainly wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to be a female. I think it's a good strong name for both genders.

Lovely name. I've worked recently with a male Alex and a female Alex and it's a good strong name. I would probably call a girl Alexandra and a boy Alexander but there's no need to do that. Preferable to Xander, which only seems to get used for boys and does conjure up the strawberry cords.

For those mentioning the name Alix, that's a French girl's name, pronounced "Al-eex".

My husband in Alexander and goes by Alex so I'd think it was for a boy. We do know a female Alex and she is Alexandra. It could be either. I love it.
