Love a a lot of the GOT names, but was wondering whether this name screams GOT or whether it was enough of a name before for GOT not to spring to mind.

Also, what are peoples' thoughts?

mrschatty Sat 21-May-16 23:04:35

I don't actually watch GOT...I know..where have I been...
So when I read your title I thought "unusual and I LIKE it! !"
I didn't make a GOT connection... I really like the name unique

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost Sat 21-May-16 23:25:52

I haven't got a tube of glue what GOT is, so It certainly never sprung to my mind. Is it pronounced Lee-Anna or Lie-Anna

julfin Sun 22-May-16 01:25:26

Ghost, GOT is game of thrones.

I'd assume it's pronounced Lie-Anna. If it's supposed to be pronounced Lee-Anna, better to spell it Leanna or people will mispronounce.

I like it either way.

Never heard of it and don't watch GOT. I would think you had made it up but other than that it sounds ok. I would assume it was pronounced Lie-Anna but could see how people might think it was Lea-Anna with a youneeq spelling...

I know a girl called Liyana and think it's very pretty

Marmaladeday Sun 22-May-16 08:04:13

I would wait until the end of this series before you decide. I love game of thrones and love the name but we are building up to a reveal and who knows which side she will end up on!

Porcupinetree Sun 22-May-16 09:52:15

I thought of Game of Thrones straight away but there are an awful lot of Arwens etc around so it's not always a bad thing...

Bogburglar99 Sun 22-May-16 09:58:13

It's a nice enough name but I do think using GoT names is very high risk. Imagine the poor parents who liked the sound of Theon after the early series (and ONS says there were a few).

And to answer your other question, I wouldn't recognise it as a name outside GoT, and I think GoT watchers would quickly make the connection.

nectarini1983 Sun 22-May-16 14:01:26

Really nice. I don't watch GoT so wouldn't have known thats where it's from. Always nice to hear a 'new' pretty name...breaks up the monotony of the usual humdrum meh names!

My only reservation would be that other viewers may have the same idea so it may become more heard of over the coming years. Very nice though.

BeastofCraggyIsland Sun 22-May-16 14:02:38

I thought 'Ned Stark's sister' as soon as I saw the thread title, but it is quite a nice name and is a lot less out there than a lot of other GoT names.

SwedishEdith Sun 22-May-16 14:14:07

Don't watch GOT so wouldn't make any connection but don't like it at all.

I thought of GOT before I even read your question... And I'm not even really a GOT fan.

And even though Lyanna is already dead there are quite a few things that could still be revealed about her (or does the reader/viewer finally know how she died/what Stark had to promise her...? If yes then it's probably a rather safe GOT name).

I personally prefer Linnea. But Lyanna is a pretty name.

Artandco Sun 22-May-16 14:28:34

I wouldn't know how to pronounce it

Don't even think about it until the end of this series. There's a strong possibility that when we finally see her it will be in the context of something memorably horrible happening to her.

NeedACleverNN Sun 22-May-16 14:40:46

A friend of mine has a daughter called Leigh-Anna

But she's 5 so past the got references. It's a nice name I think

Dogolphin Sun 22-May-16 14:42:43

I wouldnt want a name containing the word lie.

NeedACleverNN Sun 22-May-16 14:44:05

But it isn't pronounced lie-Anna dog but lee-Anna

KoalaDownUnder Sun 22-May-16 14:52:00

I know nothing about GOT, but I don't like it at all, sorry.

It reminds me of the 1980s name Leanne.

cece Sun 22-May-16 14:58:18

I have never heard of GOT or the name. I wouldn't know how to say it but would opt for Lie-anna. I think you'd get a lot of variations on pronunciation.

Beeziekn33ze Sun 22-May-16 15:01:29

Came, I think from French name Liane.

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans Sun 22-May-16 15:03:08

Never watched GOT so I'd have assumed Lie-Anna.

DerelictMyBalls Sun 22-May-16 16:33:50

What would you call her for short? Lye?

I think it's a terrible idea to name a child after something so current. It will date terribly.

IrregularCommentary Sun 22-May-16 19:27:22

I thought Lyanna Stark as soon as I saw the title and I'd expect most or at least a lot of people to assume that's where you'd taken the name from. Agree with pp to at least wait out this series before deciding...

FlouncyMcFlounceFace Sun 22-May-16 19:32:41

I have a not that unusual name but a less common spelling. I hate it. It is always being misspelt. It ranges from being slightly annoying to very inconvenient having to send back official docs etc to get spelling corrected.

If you say the name outloud how would you spell it, if you say it to a few friends how would they? Give it a real life test and consider if you could be about to spend many years correcting spellings.
