Middle name for Rosa?

We're fairly sure we're going with Rosa for a first name when dd2 arrives later in the summer, but a bit stuck for middle names. Suggestions so far are Grace, Cecily and Elise but none of them have bowled me over (dh says no to Persephone, Florence and Harriet but I'd go with any one of them) Any ideas?

Don't people pick family names for middle names anymore?

ABitAsleep Fri 13-May-16 15:57:27

I think family names for middle names are awful. Named after a fusty old relative? or forever feeling like you have to live up to your namesake(s).

I would choose another nice, 'modern' name that the child could use as an alternative if they didn't like their first name

Have you asked this before?

I only ask because I saw your thread title and immediately thought Elise, before even seeing it was a name you were already considering.

Rosa Elise sounds lovely.

As does Rosa Eloise.

Rosa Eleri (eh-lair-ee)

It's a Welsh name, was my immediate thought

I'm considering Rosa or Rose, middle name Edith after my late Granny and my DH's late Aunt.

A friend has a Rosa Carolyn which is pretty.

Rosa Beatrice

I know a Rosa Clarice.
Rosa Catherine
Rosa Faye
Must begin with a consonant though, two vowels together don't flow

Parney Fri 13-May-16 22:30:25

Strongly considering Rosa Elizabeth.

I'm not keen on Rosa Elise. Elise is a bit of a filler middle name, and the end vowel in Rosa runs into the E of Elise. For this reason I would not use any middle name starting with a vowel.

Beatrice, Madeleine, Leonora, Delphine, Catherine, Willow, Juliet, Winifred, and Caroline from PPs' suggestions are gorgeous with Rosa.

Rosa Valentine

Artandco Sat 14-May-16 09:23:37

Valentine is a boys name. Valentina is the girls version

julfin Sat 14-May-16 11:31:12

Artandco - depends which language. Valentine can be female too.

Op - I agree with pp that two vowels don't flow so well (although Elise is beautiful).

I think Rosa Celeste or Rosa Claire are lovely suggestions.

Thanks for all the excellent suggestions - lots on there that we haven't considered yet, now I just need dh to come home so I can start firing them at him.

The two vowels thing worries me a bit too, as does having an 'a' sound at the end of each name, it takes out so many girls names though.

alis I haven't posted on here about a name yet.

We're actively avoiding using a family name for a middle name. Both grandmothers dislike their names, plus we didn't want to offend anyone who we missed out. I did ask dd1 for her suggestions and all I've got so far is Snowy (for our late summer arrival...)

thesnailandthewhale Sat 14-May-16 15:08:10

Rosa Mae

mathanxiety Sun 15-May-16 03:07:36

Instead of Snowy, how about the Spanish word Nieve (pr. nee-EH-vay), meaning snow.

I love 'Snowy' smile. I had some bunnies who all rejoiced in the name when I was very small.

JingsAndCrivens Sun 15-May-16 05:03:36

Give the middle name of a family member who's important to you.

JingsAndCrivens Sun 15-May-16 05:06:11

I think family names for middle names are awful.

Because 'Rose' and 'May' and 'Grace' are SO much more interesting.
