Love Cedric and Anton.

Don't like the short forms of Nathaniel, Nat, Nate, Natty

Really like Anton (probably because I know a lovely, kind, fun one).
Like Nathaniel, love Nate.
Cedric is pretty cool but not my taste personally. Definitely think it could be cool or dweeby.

Nathaniel is a great name, the nickname Nate is cool.
Anton is fine, a perfectly good name.
Cedric I find a bit wussy. A bit 'Little Lord Fauntleroy'.

Love Anton - easy to spell and pronounce and distinctive without being weird. Quite like Nathaniel too, although I think it works best with a shorter surname, otherwise it could be a bit unwieldy. Cedric... not for me, sorry! 'Dweeby' just about sums it up, despite Cedric Diggory!

Yy to Nathaniel.

Cedric is too Diggory

Anton is too du Beck (sp)

Love Nathaniel (though don't like Nathan or Nate, I wouldn't shorten it)

Quite like Anton but don't like Cedric at all.

Not keen on Anton.

Not sure the world is ready for Cedrics yet.

I really like Nathaniel. It was on my short list if DD2 had been a boy. The problem is that it is a long name and I didn't like the short forms. I don't like Anton or Cedric very much though.

I think Cedric is cool - strong, classic and not overused.

Anton is ok, sounds a little harsh.

I don't like Nathaniel, it sounds like a mixture of Nathan and Daniel. Also don't like Nat or Nate at all, sorry.

Anton - Dubek, and I don't even watch strictly android am into ballroom dancing Confused

Nathaniel - ok, really like Nate but both a bit blah to me

Thank you for all the comments.

My personal problem is (and please bear with me) that my DH and I traded naming rights. Our child gets his lastname (which I was initially against, I was all for double barrelled) so now I'm the one to chose the first name(s), but he obviously gets to veto if he thinks the first name is horrendous....

However, the DH is English (so, an English surname for the kiddo) but I am not.

And English baby naming is apparently a real mine field, it's honestly a book with 7 seals to me.
And I don't wan't a name my MIL thinks is "common", for example...
So, I've already posted a thread here and managed to find girl names (it's narrowed down to 2), but boy names are soo hard....
My DH works for a uni and I'm a consultant (not English law, obviously). So, do you think my DH's colleagues/family (or my colleagues) would think these names are "chavvy", "try hard" or "madeup" ?

You're thinking too much, horatio. Choose the name you love the most!

Personally I love Cedric and Anton, whereas I find Nathaniel too clunky/long and am not keen on the short forms Nat/Natty/Nate (sounds like Nut/Nutty to me).

RiverTam · 27/04/2016 22:07

No, none of these names are any of those things.

I like Anton best from your list. Nathaniel is nice but don't like any of the shorts. You can only get away with Cedric if you look like Robert Pattinson, imo.

I'd be tempted to go for such a name just to see the expression on her face...

No, none of the names are common, made up, chavvy or try hard. They're all good solid well known names. Choose the name YOU and your dh love the most, not us!

Ah.... Smile
strictly android sounds like a slightly older show about robots, tbh Grin

Ballroom dancing is...ok, I guess. Was forced to learn the basics when I was a young teen... Or at least they tried to teach me Wink
