Baby names

Rosanna, Matilda or other ideas

I am currently pregnant with DD3 and really struggling to think of names. I haven't fallen in love with a name yet and am finding I keep coming to the same names which I ended up rejecting for the other two!

DD1 and 2 both have short 2 syllable names with 4 letters. I am after something a bit longer (but not too long as we have a double barrelled surname) or maybe one syllable.

At the moment Rosanna and Matilda are our favourites, so interested in thoughts on those, or other ideas, please. DH also really likes Pearl but I think I prefer it as a MN.

I like them both, but Rosanna is definitely nicer! I also like the Roseanna spelling Smile

Rosanna Pearl is lovely.

Not keen on either Roseanna or Matilda. They're nice enough names, but just not to my personal taste, but it's not me picking the name. I do love Pearl though.
Other long name suggestions.
Annabella
Catherine
Isobella
Stephanie
Georgina
Victoria
Rosabelle
Christina
Marina
Miriam

How about Marianna or Marianne, they're both very rare nowadays but are lovely names and combine the two you like.

Margot is sweet too - I knew an incredibly chic baby (French mum) called that once :) And it means "pearl".

AnnaBella is very beautiful. Susanna too

I don't like Rosanna. It reminds me of Rosanne Barr which makes me place it firmly in the 90s...

I like Matilda but think it's quite popular if that bothers you.

How about:

Tabitha
Fearne
Lorelei
Clover

I did worry about the whole Roseanne connection with Rosanna, definitely not the feeling I'm hoping for! I think it would probably tend to get shortened to Rosie which I love as a nn but wouldn't choose as a first name itself.

I don't actually know any Matilda's around here. My teenaged Dd1 thinks it's too posh! I do really like it though even though I know it's popular. DD1 has an incredibly popular name that wasn't at all popular when she was born, so I have learnt to live with popularity.

I really like Marianne, asking, but feel it would get shortened to Marie which I am not keen on.

Margot and Tabitha are great suggestions too. Thanks everyone

The Marianna I know is always that in full, and you could always shorted to Anna or Annie I guess? :)

Rosanna is very pretty and not overused. Good choice.

Thank you for the replies.

Rosanna had been my front runner, but I just don't feel 100% sure about it. Slightly worried about the Roseanne connection. Also I generally favour vintage style names and Rosanna doesn't really fit with this. But then that was one of the things I like about it, that it was a name I hadn't really considered before and that it wasn't common but without being too 'out there'. I think I worry too much about other people's reactions, but it is a name that both me and DH like as well as my DDs.

I still have 2 months before I am due. Plenty of time for more procrastination!

I prefer Rosalind to Rosanna. Would you consider just Rose?

I really like Pearl!

What about Alice or Juliet?

I love Matilda (obviously!) and despite always reading about its popularity on here, I've not yet met another one in real life (DD is 9 and I'm also a primary school teacher!)

Other names we considered..
Tabitha
Madeleine
Beatrice
Gabrielle
Florence
Freya
Lydia
Edith
Eloise

I love Rose but DH isn't keen. DD1 has a flower name and he has always vetoed another one, thinks it's too Jamie Oliver. I like that Rosanna gives the option of Rose as a nickname and I think that Rosie is cute for a small child too.

I like Rosalind, I think it is very classic, but I have a friend called Rosalind who goes by Roz as a nn and I don't like that. I know I can't really control nicknames especially as they get older, though.

op, I'm also expecting Dd3 and 32 weeks... We have Matilda (Tilly) and Rosanna on our list.

The rest of the list looks like this :
Louisa
Maggie
Georgia
Annabel
Margot
Daphne
Juliet
Vivienne
Valerie
Abigail
Violet
Claudia
Piper
Penelope
Roxanne

I love Daphne, dh wants Valerie. We cannot agree!!

Fab lists tillyscoutsmum and RNBrie those are all the sorts of names that I have had on my previous lists, in fact Beatrice and Florence are my DDs Middle names. I don't know what it is this time that is making me steer away from them a bit, I still think they are all beautiful names, but I think having considered and rejected lots of them previously, I feel DD3 needs her own name not a hand me down from her sisters.

I think you should go for Daphne by the way, I wouldn't have the guts, it is too unusual for where I live, but it's a great name.

Miranda is really underused now as well. I'm all over the M names today.

What about Celia, sticking with the theme?

ALL Rosalinds go by Ros/z eventually, even if they'd rather not.

I love Roseanna with the nickname of Rosa - lovely :)

Above someone has suggested Celia - you could have Cecilia for a longer version. I do love Matilda too but not that keen on Tilly.
