Brother for Patrick

Help! We already have a Patrick and have found out we're expecting another boy. We'd chosen a name but my sister gave birth last week and (unbeknown to her) 'our' name is on her short-list. Our criteria:

Unusual but not too 'out-there'
I'm Irish and like Irish names, but husband is concerned about difficulties with spelling/pronunciation
Nothing too traditionally 'English' - George, William, Giles etc just don't do it for me
We're thinking of Etienne as a middle name so something that goes with that would be good.
Nothing beginning with a B - surname begins with a B and it's just too much

We'd both agreed on:

Luke Etienne (Luke is the name that my sister might pinch!)

I like (although the husband needs convincing):

Rory
Hugh
Finn

I love Rory and Hugh. I actually far prefer them to Luke, though Luke is nice.

I like Ronan, Eoin / Owen & Michael (is Michael Irish)?? I'm not that keen on Finn really and there are a lot of them, if that bothers you.

I LOVE Rory - need to convince the husband. I think I probably prefer Hugh to Luke myself (slightly) but he's less keen.

Patrick and Hugh?
Patrick and Rory?
Patrick and Luke?

Hmmm

I think Lucas goes better than Luke tbh but appreciate you still cant use it if your sister goes for Luke.

Patrick and Sean/Shaun
Patrick and Shay
Patrick and Ciaran/Ciar
Patrick and Moir
Patrick and Conrad
Patrick and Cormac

I think I like Hugh and Rory better than Luke/Lucas too.

Sophronia · 27/04/2016 10:57

I like Luke and Hugh. Not keen on Rory or Finn.

mamalovebird · 27/04/2016 11:04

I know a lot of Patricks Grin. I quite like Hugh, I know a little one, it took me a while to warm to the name, was very old fashioned when I was growing up but it's really grown on me. Luke is nice but I know loads.

BlueChampagne · 27/04/2016 13:11

Aidan or Brendan

BlueChampagne · 27/04/2016 13:12

OK, scrap Brendan - just noticed the B surname bit. But Brendan Behan???

mcswaz · 27/04/2016 13:14

How is Moir pronounced? Excuse my ignorance...

Victor - I like that!

I also love Leo - wish we'd had it as a middle name for Patrick.

Thanks all!

Moir is Moyerr - sort off - it's funny trying to describe how something sounds.

so, moy like soy and something between ir (as in whir) and err but said as one word.

OneMagnumisneverenough · 27/04/2016 13:25

It came to my head as I knew someone who's first name was Hugh but he went by his middle name which was Moir.

cecilelliott · 03/05/2016 22:15

Patrick and Ewan?
Patrick and Cillian?

I would avoid Finn-very popular at the moment!

Good luck!

ChocolateStash · 03/05/2016 22:22

Nathan/Daniel/Nathaniel

Winterbiscuit · 03/05/2016 23:20

I like Luke, Victor and Leo, and Hugh is quite nice too.

Not so keen on Rory or Finn.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 03/05/2016 23:29

First thought was Elliott (though probably not with your chosen middle name!).

I like Luke & Finn but think Hugo goes best with Patrick.

Also like Ciaran, Aidan, Owen, Cormac and Shay.

Other suggestions:
Louis
Quentin
Ellis
Toby
Seth
Xander
Niall

butteredmuffin · 04/05/2016 21:00

Benjamin?

YellowPirate · 05/05/2016 07:03

We have a Patrick too and we are struggling with a 2nd boys name (although we don't know the sex at the moment). Top choice at the moment is Francis. We also like Aidan and Owen. I would have Gabriel and Michael in my list if they hadn't been used in the family already.

Following with interest!

KayTee87 · 05/05/2016 17:35

I like
Michael
Sean
Antony

jamenhej · 05/05/2016 17:36

Years and years ago I knew brothers called Alastair and Patrick, always thought that went nicely together.
