Thoughts on January for a girl?

BendydickCuminsnatch Sat 23-Apr-16 20:49:48

Really like it.

Alisvolatpropiis Sat 23-Apr-16 20:59:23

I struggle with month names. Not because I don't like them because to me it sounds a bit odd if the baby isn't born in that month but also a bit twee if they were confused

LadyAntonella Sat 23-Apr-16 21:04:12

Love it.

PickleBot Sat 23-Apr-16 21:53:31

What Ali said.

Sophronia Sat 23-Apr-16 22:01:17

I quite like it

DerelictMyBalls Sat 23-Apr-16 22:03:00

Yes, it's lovely.

Wolfiefan Sat 23-Apr-16 22:04:22

It's a month not a name?

DrunkenMissOrderly Sat 23-Apr-16 22:07:29

Yeah she would end up being called Jan...not the prettiest name.

Alisvolatpropiis Sat 23-Apr-16 22:07:30

April, May and June are well established names as well as being months...

ThroughThickAndThin01 Sat 23-Apr-16 22:08:10

I like it.

Falling270 Sat 23-Apr-16 22:47:05

Love this name.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost Sat 23-Apr-16 23:15:55

Very nice. Is she due in January or did you conceive then.

Wolfiefan Sat 23-Apr-16 23:16:46

January not so much.

AngharadTheSplendid Mon 25-Apr-16 06:44:05

I like that it is different. But not a fan of Jan. And also I find January a little bit of a depressing month, so not a great association. But maybe that's just me.

NashvilleQueen Mon 25-Apr-16 06:48:35

It's entirely up to you what name you choose of course but I can't help wondering whether you genuinely think that this is the best name in the entire world to go for? It's just a random month and one which generally conveys post-Christmas gloom, cold weather and dark nights. It's also uncommon so you'd have to explain your thinking to people (as would your DD) for years to come. I'm speaking from bitter experience here!

If you absolutely have your heart set on it then you should do it. Otherwise I would reflect on it a little while.

BakingBunty Mon 25-Apr-16 20:39:30

I love it. And so do you, or you wouldn't be considering it. So go for it! Would be right up there on the list if DD2 came along!

AutumnRose1988 Mon 25-Apr-16 20:59:08

I love it :-)

Myself and my DH are both born in January, we are not currently trying but when we do I would like to plan for her to be born in January too, the only thing that stops me is the NN Jan but at a push we could maybe use Annie?

Thebrowntrout Mon 25-Apr-16 21:46:16

I quite like it, although it's very unusual which would put me off.

I mean, I know unusual names have their positives but in years to come, someone applying for a job called Annie who isn't successful and reapplies in a couple of years isn't remembered; someone called January is.

It can be a bit 'public' having a very unique name.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost Mon 25-Apr-16 22:07:43

Well it's still April, so. Perhaps if you get busy tonight. She might come in time for January winkgrin

julfin Mon 25-Apr-16 23:29:02

Speaking from experience, it's rather ambitious to try to plan which month your baby is born in. Good luck!

I'm afraid I broadly agree with Ali's first comment. Seems random if she's not born in that month, and a bit twee or unimaginative if she is.

But as a name in itself, January is quite nice. Nothing against Jan either, and as you say, Annie is nice too.

Marcipex Tue 26-Apr-16 00:40:25

February is nicer, and has a precedent..there are some books with a heroine called February.

Catinthecorner Tue 26-Apr-16 01:02:04

January Jones is precedent surely?

NerrSnerr Tue 26-Apr-16 03:16:26

That's a lot of pressure to try and conceive in one month.

I'm not keen on January. It doesn't sound like a name to me and it makes me think of dreary cold, dark nights.
