What do you think of this name for a boy?

Our surname is Lord. There aren't many boys' names I like, in fact I could probably count them on one hand. I hate all these 'new' names I hear so much these days. But DH and I were sat talking about names while waiting at the hospital the other day and we were looking at names of characters from films we like on IMDB. Anyway one of my favourite films is Gladiator and the main character's name is Maximus. Well I think that's an awesome name to go with Lord. Who would mess with Maximus Lord? Of course we'd call him Max most of the time, which we both like. But what do you think? Is it daft?

Honestly? Yes.

Lord is a difficult surname to pull off IMO and I wouldn't go for a first name that sounded overly 'grand' for that reason.

Don't think it's great, no... what if he's very short, for example?

He sounds like a superhero. Looking at you, his dad and your families, is he likely to be able to carry it off? It'll work better on a sturdy, confident child that a very slight, reserved one. What's your best guess?

Use Maximilian

Maximilian sounds better I think. Maximus too imposing.

Max Lord is an okay name but I would use Maxwell as the long name not Maximus.

Haha BIL wanted us to call our son Maximus as he and Sis had a girl and aren't having any more, so I wax gifted the name. I love it! We haven't used it as we had already decide on Callum Spencer.
I'd go with Maximilian though with Lord, does sound less imposing.

Maximus and Maximilian sound ridiculous with Lord. Maxwell Lord is too many l's sounds a bit like Max Well'ard.
Maxton or just Max?
I also really like the Welsh name Macsen which sounds good with Lord.

What about just Maxim?

I think it's fine. If you love the name, go for it. You don't have to choose a boring name just because you have a surname that stands out.

It sounds a bit like a Game of Thrones character, to be honest.

Maxim is slightly less posy than Maximus with the surname Lord.

Or just Max (which he will be called from approx 2 minutes post birth for the rest of his life anyway Grin)?

posy = poncy

I think it's a great name, what on earth is wrong with it?Confused

Would work equally well with Maxwell, I like Maxim too Smile

Not Maxamillion, this is a name I always associate with spoilt rich kids (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory style). I think with Lord that might be a it to much.

Maximus is cool, go with your gut!

Well, it'll get him noticed, that's for sure! Just hope to goodness he's got the ego and build to live up to it Grin

I wouldn't.
