What are your thoughts on calling my first born son Frank? I love the name and I know Frankie is very popular but what about just Frank? Or any similar suggestions to go with a very popular surname? I like old fashioned names best.

I have a Frank smile. He suits his name so much and gets compliments all the time on his name.

It's a proper solid name that has a traditional/retro feel but isn't as cheesy as other more popular 'old man' names like Alfie/Archie/Stanley etc.

Have to say I hate Frankie though.

I like Frank too. Good solid underused name.

Don't like Frankie at all, it sounds so feminine and cutesy.

Oh Betty grin

Sorry, couldn't resist! For me it will always be associated with "Some mothers do 'ave 'em".

Frank is a great name. Alternatively Francis?

The Frank I know utterly hates Frankie, but it was used when he was still in nappies smile

I like it. It could also be short for Francis or Franklin.

Thanks everyone, I've really fallen for it I think. And it's meaningful with elderly relatives on both sides of our family so think it might be one we will go with.

Don't like it at all. I think it's quite an ugly sounding name, sorry

The OP asked for opinions!

I love it and it is on our list. I can't decide whether to have Francis and use Frank day-to-day nickname. It's a brilliant name either way.

CaroleService Fri 22-Apr-16 16:36:08

I have a Frank. Go for it

justlikeastar Fri 22-Apr-16 22:50:27

I think it's brilliant name, though I work in a school with the most gorgeous 6 year old Frank in my class so I may be biased!

It's classic and strong without being popular. Go for it. smile

idontlikealdi Fri 22-Apr-16 22:51:48

I thought at first I didn't like it but I really do, it's great!

sixinabed Fri 22-Apr-16 23:52:33

Love it! Would have used as it was my grandfathers name but one of the cousins is already called it so had to use it as a middle name. Ds is very keen on his middle name and likes to tell people all 3 (first, middle, last) when asked - which usually freaks them out.
So it's a double thumbs up from two of the six in a bed smile

I think it is a great name!

I know a teenage frankie, Frank for short. 😊
His 'proper' name is Francis.

I like it.

BendydickCuminsnatch Sat 23-Apr-16 09:57:13

Love it! Franklin is in our top 3 if future DC2 is a boy.

I have a Franklin, it's a good name! Not too weird but not common either.

ThroughThickAndThin01 Sat 23-Apr-16 10:32:19

Not a fan at all.

Very ugly name to me.

My brother is a Francis but is known as frank or frankie by family. It is a great name
