Hi all, please can you give me your ideas on a boys name to go with sister Margot? (I'd like a name of the same style, but not 100% sure what that style is.)

Albert,
Ned,
Bertie,
Edward,
Benjamin,
Philip,
Freddy,
Joshua,
Timothy,

Something quite classic and traditional I reckon.

Jerry?
(Sorry, it's a 1970s joke)

Ha Wordsmith tell me about it. I loved Penelope of this one was going to be a girl but had to draw the line smile

"I'd like a name of the same style, but not 100% sure what that style is."

I'd call it classy and classic but not too common. French origin but known in English-speaking countries.

I'm place marking, as I'd like a boy's name to fit that description, and I have yet to find one!

Thanks AnotherEmma, I'd agree with you. Some people seem to see it as very vintage-English and others as unusual-European. I swing between the two when trying to match boys names with it.

I thought I was going to be so witty writing Jerry but someone beat me to it

Are you pronouncing this the French way, Mar-go, or the German/Scandinavian way, Mar-got?

For the French pronunciation, I'd probably choose another French name like Claude, Benoit, Louis or similar.

AnotherEmma Tue 19-Apr-16 15:23:16

Just my opinion but I would avoid a name that is very obviously French (such as Claude or Pierre) unless there is a French connection in the family. I would also check the connotations with French people (Claude is an "old man" name apparently although that may not bother you).
