Yes. I know a Bertie as well and he's super cool.

seven201 Sat 02-Apr-16 19:23:20

I wouldn't but my friend has an Albert that they call Albie which I think is very cute.

228agreenend Sat 02-Apr-16 19:24:47

Okay as a nn for Albert or Bertram. Bertie is cool.

Sunshine511 Sat 02-Apr-16 19:29:13

The trouble is, the 't' at the end often won't be pronounced properly, in all liklihood. I think Bert sounds awful when not said properly. Much nicer when it's said correctly. Same applies to the name Bertie. I think it sounds awful when not said properly. I have a similar sort of name which includes a 't' so I suppose I may just have a complex about it.

Who on earth looks at a little baby and thinks, I know we'll call him Bert

I don't mind some old man names (and DS has one) but Bert/Bertie are both dreadful.

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard Sat 02-Apr-16 19:42:18

I wouldn't go for Bert, but I like Bertie. Maybe it's better as a short form though or a NN?

I'd probably register Robert, or Albert and tell everyone he was named Bertie.

Artandco Sat 02-Apr-16 19:45:18

I like it. I would use Albert, then Bertie/ Bert

AliciaMayEmory Sat 02-Apr-16 19:46:51

Love it! blush

AliciaMayEmory Sat 02-Apr-16 19:47:26

But would probably use Albert and shorten it to Burt.

squoosh Sat 02-Apr-16 21:54:23

No I wouldn't. Utterly unappealing.

I imagine a Bert as looking like Andy Capp.

badg3r Sun 03-Apr-16 00:16:58

Haha! If you have another you can call him Ernie <not helpful>

Sophronia Sun 03-Apr-16 00:23:48

Ok short for Robert or Albert

VocationalGoat Sun 03-Apr-16 00:30:48

Let me ponder... Jim Hensen muppets, lift music written for Dionne Warwick, and Mary Poppins...
That's my final answer.

VocationalGoat Sun 03-Apr-16 00:33:00

Bertie is cool though.
I can handle Bertie and know one. It works. It's cool.
But it cannot be Bertie on the birth cert.
Norbert. Albert. Hubert. Herbert.

IoraRua Sun 03-Apr-16 00:33:34

Never ever. It's one of those names where I struggle to find a single thing I like about it.

MitzyLeFrouf Sun 03-Apr-16 00:36:02

But it cannot be Bertie on the birth cert.
Norbert. Albert. Hubert. Herbert.

In what universe is Norbert a good idea??!!

MitzyLeFrouf Sun 03-Apr-16 00:36:59

And once more for dramatic effect...............NORBERT!

LurkonTAthread Sun 03-Apr-16 00:39:12

I had an Uncle Bert who was a Cuthbert. He was a lively man.

(And I know a baby Ernie and a 12 year old Ernest)

BettyCrystal Sun 03-Apr-16 00:39:35

Bert Baxter

MissBeaHaving Sun 03-Apr-16 00:41:01

MitzyLeFrouf grin

"*And once more for dramatic effect...............NORBERT!"

Completely agree NOT due a revival!

Artandco Sun 03-Apr-16 07:48:38

We had Ernie on our list of ds2, he would have been Ernest, with Ernie as nickname

I think Ernest and Albert are fabulous names.
