I keep going back and forth and can't decide whether I like it or not, opinions?

It just makes me think of breaking bad

Breaking bad. Not in a good way. Sorry!

Lindor Fri 25-Mar-16 10:26:17

The Beano!

rhodes15 Fri 25-Mar-16 10:27:04

I'm so glad someone has asked this as I've been thinking exactly the same. I quite like it. The only thing I'm bothered by is the nickname Wally.

EssentialHummus Fri 25-Mar-16 10:27:41

...Whitman. (Don't watch Breaking Bad grin )

It's ok but a bit old-fashioned.

My dad is called Walter. He's 64. He does not like it. He is very, very abrupt with people who call him Wally.

JeanGenie23 Fri 25-Mar-16 10:30:09

I prefer Walt to Walter.

I love breaking bad but not many associations would put me off a name if I like it that much.

If you are changing your mind so frequently I would keep the name at the back of your mind but think of others.

What about Wilf?

WingMirrorSpider Fri 25-Mar-16 10:31:47

Walter softy (Beano?)

I think it sounds a bit drippy tbh.

Bobbycatz Fri 25-Mar-16 10:39:41

I hadn't thought about Wally, which I don't like. Rethinking the name now especially given the comments, I didnt realise it was that bad

One of my DH's middle names is Walter (after an Uncle), and during our wedding vows I just couldn't say it because I took a fit of giggles every time I tried blush

Sophronia Fri 25-Mar-16 10:52:22

I'm in the minority but I like it!

petitdonkey Fri 25-Mar-16 10:53:52

I teach a Walter who is lovely - his name is never shortened. He is 7.

albertcampionscat Fri 25-Mar-16 13:31:20

I love it, but the Beano/Disney/Crystal Meth associations are just too much for it to be useable.

Bobbycatz Fri 25-Mar-16 13:47:08

I haven't watched breaking bad, but see the Disney association.

CaptainCorellisBanjo Fri 25-Mar-16 17:21:05

I love the name Walter, think it's fab but I do have a really lovely friend with that name!

ScarlettDarling Fri 25-Mar-16 17:23:42

Oh no op, it's truly dreadful!

sonlypuppyfat Fri 25-Mar-16 17:24:59

It's like you people don't think bullies exist, please don't

Mclaren37 Fri 25-Mar-16 22:22:53

I really like it, especially Walt for short. With the usual support of vintage / old and 'real' names on here I'm surprised at the lack of love for it actually! To me it falls into the same category as Stanley, Wilfred, Arthur... but maybe a bit cooler.

Moggysinger Sat 26-Mar-16 10:34:24

It's on our list of possibles as it is a family name for both of us (great grandparent and great great grandparents!) Dh says his great-great grandpa used to get called 'wat' for short. I like how unusual it is, not sure we're a cool enough couple to pull it off but hopefully our dc might be! Dh loves it, as an avid reader of the beano as a child I do still associate it a little with Walter the softy. But it's definitely growing on me. Having never seen breaking bad that wouldn't bother me.

It is SUCH a cool name! So STRONG. Think it fell out of fashion after the war because of the German connection but it is awesome.

Also Bruce Willis' first name is Walter. Can't beat it!
