Molly is a lovely name. I'm not keen on the other spelling at all.

I just wasn't sure which was the original Smile

Spell it properly Molly

Okay, but I was asking for opinions on the name, not the spelling!

Wasn't it a form of Margaret? So neither is the proper spelling?

That isn't clear at all. Most people will assume if you've got alternatives for spelling you're asking which is best.

I wish I'd used it for dd2 but dh thought it was too cute. it's her middle name and all close family call her Molly Smile

No! Sorry! You're welcome to say which you prefer, I was just asking for opinions... That's why I put "Molly/Mollie" as we hadn't decided Smile

My DD's friend is called Mollea but her friend's call her Molly. I love the unusual take on it.

I don't think Molly has every been short for Margaret.

Are you thinking of Daisy?

Peggy is short for Margaret.

Madbengalmum · 22/03/2016 20:48

Yes OP i think people know that, we are saying the spelling that we like the best, as well as liking the name.

Actually Wikipedia informs me Molly can be short for Mary and Margaret

I have a Molly. I luffs it!
Don't actually mind either spelling.
I don't know any other girls her age with the same name.

Molly is short for Margaret - DSD's middle name is Margaret and we call her Molly

aggie246 · 22/03/2016 20:54

Love Molly! It was my great-aunts name
Wished we'd chosen it for DD

Report
Smartiepants79 · 22/03/2016 20:54

I think it's fairly timeless actually. Derives from Mary or Margaret.
Meg is short for Margaret also.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 22/03/2016 20:55

Blimey so Margaret has - Molly, Daisy, Meg, Maggie, Margie, Peggy, Madge. What a versatile name.

My sister is Molly. Only thing she finds annoying is that lots of people call their dog it..
