Molly is a lovely name. I'm not keen on the other spelling at all.

LightTurquoise Tue 22-Mar-16 20:34:26

I just wasn't sure which was the original smile

Madbengalmum Tue 22-Mar-16 20:38:25

Molly not mollie

Floggingmolly Tue 22-Mar-16 20:39:33

Spell it properly Molly

LightTurquoise Tue 22-Mar-16 20:39:38

Okay, but I was asking for opinions on the name, not the spelling!

LightTurquoise Tue 22-Mar-16 20:40:55

Wasn't it a form of Margaret? So neither is the proper spelling?

PurpleDaisies Tue 22-Mar-16 20:41:42

That isn't clear at all. Most people will assume if you've got alternatives for spelling you're asking which is best.

I love it. This was our wecond choice girls name

2snugglets Tue 22-Mar-16 20:42:59

I wish I'd used it for dd2 but dh thought it was too cute. it's her middle name and all close family call her Molly smile

ThroughThickAndThin01 Tue 22-Mar-16 20:43:43

Love Molly.

LightTurquoise Tue 22-Mar-16 20:43:43

No! Sorry! You're welcome to say which you prefer, I was just asking for opinions... That's why I put "Molly/Mollie" as we hadn't decided smile

muttonjeffmum Tue 22-Mar-16 20:44:16

My DD's friend is called Mollea but her friend's call her Molly. I love the unusual take on it.

ThroughThickAndThin01 Tue 22-Mar-16 20:44:51

I don't think Molly has every been short for Margaret.

Are you thinking of Daisy?

Sallyhasleftthebuilding Tue 22-Mar-16 20:46:31

Lots of Molly's about - think it will date

PurpleDaisies Tue 22-Mar-16 20:47:17

Peggy is short for Margaret.

Madbengalmum Tue 22-Mar-16 20:48:09

Yes OP i think people know that, we are saying the spelling that we like the best, as well as liking the name.

PurpleDaisies Tue 22-Mar-16 20:48:20

Actually Wikipedia informs me Molly can be short for Mary and Margaret

Smartiepants79 Tue 22-Mar-16 20:50:42

I have a Molly. I luffs it!
Don't actually mind either spelling.
I don't know any other girls her age with the same name.

user7755 Tue 22-Mar-16 20:53:50

Molly is short for Margaret - DSD's middle name is Margaret and we call her Molly

aggie246 Tue 22-Mar-16 20:54:14

Love Molly! It was my great-aunts name
Wished we'd chosen it for DD

Smartiepants79 Tue 22-Mar-16 20:54:33

I think it's fairly timeless actually. Derives from Mary or Margaret.
Meg is short for Margaret also.

ThroughThickAndThin01 Tue 22-Mar-16 20:55:47

Blimey so Margaret has - Molly, Daisy, Meg, Maggie, Margie, Peggy, Madge. What a versatile name.

Purplebluebird Tue 22-Mar-16 20:58:05

I like Molly!

poocatcherchampion Tue 22-Mar-16 20:58:08

And Polly!
