Hi everyone, I just found out I am having a baby boy and while I had a long list of girl names I liked I do not have many boy names. So far I have chosen names like zayn, laith, hadi, and elyas. My husband likes none. I like 1-syllable names that are short and easy, but he likes names a little more 'traditional'. We live in the US but are of Arabic origin and practice Islam so I'd like a Muslim/Arabic name that would be easy to say in the US. I liked names like ayman also but just thought it would get my son teased in school! I have one daughter named 'Tala' so I would like something to match that as well. Any and all suggestions are welcome smile

I love Elyas. Shame your DH doesn't like it sad. Adam is actually a traditional Arabic boys name. I also like Majid, bit different but strong. What about Issa, Faisal, Jassim?

Names that are both biblical and Koranic may be good choice. Elyas (specially if you spell it Elias) is my favourite. I know a few and they are lovely boys. Josef/yousof and yonus are nice too.
Zayn is lovely too but I think very very popular these days.

OK, just been through the kids class lists. Brit in the ME. Apologies if these are old fashioned (or even some girls names), but I've picked out the ones which look "familiar" to an English speaker, and are short (tho lots are 2 syllables). Any use?

Ali, Ain, Arif, Baz, Deen, Erol, Esa/Isa, Haris, Kafi, Karim, Mossa /Musa, Nur, Omar, Rafi, Raz, Saif, Taj, Said.

Ibrahim!! A strong name.

I know it's not one syllable but is Arabic and also easy to say in western tongues.

DesertorDessert! Thank you for the long list!

Ali and Karim are two of my favorites, unfortunately my sister used both before I had the chance! I like Saif, I'm just worried that will be odd in the US as it is said like 'safe' . Do you guys think it would work or would he be made fun of?

Thanks for all of the lovely suggestions!

IndianaJone, Thank you dear! Very nice name indeed, however it is my husbands name smile He tried to convince me for an Ibrahim Jr, but I wasn't convinced lol !!

ArtandCo, I love the name Aiden.

I mentioned it previously to my husband and he said it wasn't Arabic. Maybe because I was pronouncing it like how we do in the US. Any idea what the meaning is behind it? I looked online but had trouble finding it with Arabic origin. I think all of the ones I found were 'Irish'.

Thanks smile

We have Abdul-Sami. It is traditional, but you cannot have Sami without Abdul! Therefore I went with it. However he is called Sami at nursery and at home. Could you share some of your Arabic girl names?

Artandco Sun 13-Mar-16 10:11:01

Does this help with Aiden?

My 15 year old nephew who is Muslim is Zane. I love it. It's probably a lot more popular after One Direction or whichever teen bad had a Zayne though.

Amir? That it my brothers name

nada92120 Sun 13-Mar-16 20:14:01

Thank you everyone! I love so many of the names that were mentioned, Zane, Amir, and Rayyan were a few that my husband crossed off my list.

At this point he's set on Khalid.

I'm definitely not.. lol

And while we still have many months to go Id like to agree on a name. One less thing to stress about, plus my husband would probably wait until the birth if I let him hmm

powertotheparslaii Sun 13-Mar-16 20:16:35

Zaid? Aydin?

nada92120 Sun 13-Mar-16 20:32:45

I love both actually! Zaid was a no from my husband now I'm gonna have to get convincing on Aiden. It's short, sweet, and easy! Thanks sweety.
