If the surname starts with an 'O' please? I'm already finding it restrictive to find names that sound nice with a vowel surname and I know initials can be a minefield too! Thanks dp!!

B's and K's immediately spring to mind.

I wanted to avoid B's as our surname starts with a J. Of course all my favourite names from then on began with B.

Maybe N

B, H, N.

Wow that's a lot already. This sucks! sad

Possibly P. Also, if it's a girl you might avoid naming her Zoe, nn Zo, initials ZO.

Can't you just add a middle name so that the initials you choose to use are XXO instead of XO.

Mind you, I grew up with initials that spelt a well known medical condition, not PMT, but something similar. Never bothered me!

Cornet, one of my bikes is made by a maker with the initials BJ, stamped here and there on the frame, can still make me snigger in a silly moment.

personally I think just B should be avoided... NO etc are fine!

MadameDePompom Tue 08-Mar-16 10:56:08

B.O is the only one I'd avoid.

N.O, G.O, K.O, F.O etc. are all fine.

Cornettoninja Tue 08-Mar-16 14:30:30

I'd definitely avoid H's. I reckon a teenage girl would suffer with that one.

stiffstink Tue 08-Mar-16 16:04:28

I would say BO and HO would be the only problems but if depends on whether you plan a middle name.

StitchesInTime Tue 08-Mar-16 17:24:53

IME at school and work, middle initials are generally only used if there's someone else with the same first and last initials. Especially if it's someone else writing initials on stuff.

Oh cornettoninja that's the problem i'm having as surname is J and I love all B names!

I agree BO and HO could be problematic. Rest are fine.

Thanks all for your input. Yes there will be a middle initial, but they're not often used in day to day life really are they?

One of our favourites is H (for a girl) this is not good!

lavendersun Wed 09-Mar-16 06:35:57

Kinky I have always used all three initials, so has DH and now Dd. I didn't know it was unusual!

BikeRunSki Wed 09-Mar-16 06:39:03

lavendersun, I've got a bike like that! Is yours from Leeds?

lavendersun Wed 09-Mar-16 08:12:39

Yes it is grin, DH has one too .... and we are moving 'home' with them next week which is making me ecstatically happy despite the stress of moving.

WutheringFrights Wed 09-Mar-16 08:15:53

Kinky, honestly I would only avoid B.
My uncles initials are A.R.S :-D

StarkyTheDirewolf Wed 09-Mar-16 17:37:15

My maiden name began with an O. My nickname begins with B, nobody really picked up on it till I was about 14/15, and I had a mini episode of some low level bullying about it. But yeah, definitely don't use B names.

DontKillMyVibe Wed 09-Mar-16 19:49:52

B & H would be the only initials I'd avoid with O

My DD's surname will begin with W and the current fav name to be begins with M. Would like E as a middle name after a relative. Semi tempted to add an O name as well. Can't decide if MEOW is cute or fecking ridiculous grin

Very happy for you lavender. My adopted home.

lavendersun Thu 10-Mar-16 08:39:33

You have probably lived there almost as long as I did bike, I left 30 years ago at 18!

NotMeNotYouNotAnyone Thu 10-Mar-16 14:30:34

B or F really

I hate my initials and use my middle one where I can but many many many times only first and last count, eg all my log in ids at school and work.
