What are your thoughts on Ellis for a girl?

I love the name as know a lovely lady of that name but sure how much that is skewing my judgement.

Failing that, Rowan?

Ellis is far too much a boy's name.

Rowan is lovely.

Much too much a boys name. What about Eilis?
I like Rowan, it's always been very female to me anyway.

This was my fear. I know no boys and have only ever known this one lady.

Oh dear!

Thumbs up for Rowan Smile

I've taught one. It's quite cute.

I assume Eilis is pron eye-lish?

Is it a Scottish or Irish name? Second generation of both so could at a push justify that.

Nice suggestion, thanks

Ellis was one of the names we had chosen for a dd but didn't use. I think it works for either.

Oh some positive ones too, this is good, thank you

A no from me, for both Ellis and Rowan. Love them both for a boy, but not for a girl.

I know two girls and one boy, it's more a girl's name to me!

I love Rowan for a girl, not so keen on Ellis

Ellis Peters was the lady who wrote the Cadfael stories. I think of it much like Frances/Francis and Lesley. I do think rowan is a boys name with rowann(e) as the female equivalent. I really like both names by the way

It is a bit too similar to Ellie for me.
Nice though.

Ellis is lovely! And we had Rowan on our girls list.

I love it for a girl. No so much for a boy.

I think it is lovely!! But if DD was a boy she would have been called Jesse.

chachaboom · 03/03/2016 19:02

In Wales it would only ever be a boy's name (also a surname).

I knew a female Ellys, pronounced like Ellis. Or how about Elise?
