Stressed! Alexandra or Felicity?

Hi everyone. It is my 5 week old's middle name I am obsessing about. I know it's just a middle name (and who knows anyone's middle name) but this will be my last baby and I want to get it right and I'm thinking about it constantly!

We had originally thought Alexandra, we made the announcement with this middle name and we have registered her with this middle name. The thing is I love felicity but chose Alexandra as it was the classic, safe, can't-go-wrong option and was our initial thought so didn't want to feel bad going back on an initial reaction (as often first instincts are right). Felicity is a bit out-there for us but I really love it and can't seem to be able to let it go. OH said it was my choice but made it clear he thought Alexandra was best and because I was in turmoil over the two I made a panic decision. OH has vetoed having two middle names.

I am not concerned about which goes better with the first name but I am worrying we have made a mistake. I may just be tired and over-thinking this and it's not that I don't like Alexandra. As it's a middle name it could be changed without anyone knowing but, in a way, that makes the decision harder as it would be easy to do and therefore too tempting to keep to'ing and fro'ing.

So, please let me have your honest views on both names as I feel that I don't know my own mind on this anymore.

Well I love both names but have a 2 year old felicity so I say go for that smile. We get so many compliments on her name.

Felicitous much more beautiful and feminine.

I don't like the names Alex or Sandra, especially not put together.

Felicity! Damn iPad blush

Personally I prefer Alexandra, but Felicity isn't 'out there' IMO. They're both lovely names.

I loooooove the name Felicity.

Indecisiveness Wed 24-Feb-16 22:47:25

Thanks for your comments.

Her first name is Helena.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost Wed 24-Feb-16 22:50:28

Helena Felicity.

Both great names, would go for A except the first name being H. So Felicity.

Personally I prefer Alexandra as a standalone name, but Felicity sounds better with her first name. Go with your gut (it's really ok to change your mind!)

Felicity smile

Sophronia Thu 25-Feb-16 11:59:29

Helena Alexandra is beautiful

Hellin-a or he-lane-ah?

Alexandra goes better with the second pronounciation.

That said, I prefer Felicity and it's high on my list as a first name if the bun in my oven turns out to be a girl bun. What's not to like about a name that means "happiness"?

That said, interesting that you are so concerned about a middle name at all when you're not approaching it from the perspective of paying tribute to a family member. I don't have one and it's never bothered me in the slightest (my surname is quite long and parents rightly thought I'd already have plenty to write). I think they also wanted to avoid offending either grandmother.

My own baby will have either my Dad's or my Mum's middle name as both have passed away; DH's parents are still alive.

Helena Felicity Alexandra

There is no law which says you cannot have both smile

If you must choose, pick the one you absolutely love.

What about both ?

LovelyBranches Thu 25-Feb-16 16:32:42

Alexandra, but J personally prefer Alexandria.

Felicity always gets shortened to Flick in my experience.

JessieMcJessie Thu 25-Feb-16 16:47:08

Alexandria's not a name it's a place.

KatieT12 Thu 25-Feb-16 17:08:37

It doesn't matter what Felicity would be shortened for... It's for the middle name!
