I posted yesterday asking for short, timeless names for a girl to follow sisters Lily and Eve so sorry for another post but..

Tula? My 12 year old came out with it last night! At first I wasn't sure but having looked it up this name is rare!

Obviously that's probably because people don't like it but perhaps not many have heard of it? It's a variant of Tallulah (a name I'm not keen on) and means 'leaping water'. I've been looking for a name with meaning and as my name means 'white water' it's basically the same meaning!

So..thoughts? It's pronounced 'too la' not 'chu la'.

Was tula not one of the hoobs?
I like it though, nice balance of unusual enough without being too out there for my tastes

There's a very good reason it's rare!

Isn't it a make of handbags?

Quick Google shows it's also a city in Russia (still like it Blush)

Humm Tooler? You do know what a tool is, yeah?

Or, she'll be called two lips!

Seriously, call her Tallulah, or Tallahassee (cue people singing Take Me To The Bridge) but "Tula not Choola" will be a bane for her. She'll hate you!

Isn't that the name of the main character in My Big Fat Greek Wedding?

HackerFucker22 · 22/02/2016 13:30

It's the name of my friends elderly Greek Aunt (not sure of spelling though) so I always thought it was a Greek name?

I don't like it

What about:
Thalia/ Talia?

KoalaDownUnder · 22/02/2016 13:37

Nah. Don't like.

What about Dahlia? Or Tatiana?

Venus why two lips? Confused

Yes it's a make of baby carrier and in my big fat Greek wedding her name was Toula and short for something like fatoula (not sure of correct name)!

Thanks for comments, I wasn't sure at first but starting to really love it! Blush I think it sounds cute on a toddler and interesting for an adult?

I really dislike Tallulah it sounds weak and wishy washy and a bit too frilly for my taste.

Handbag brand! Sorry OP

Yes it was one of the hoobs according to google! Not a lot of info on the name anywhere though. It's a Native American name apparently.

It can be Greek too although it's usually Toula in Greek

Never heard of the handbag brand! Is it very obvious? Don't tend to buy flashy bags Grin

Came across a Toula a few weeks ago - first time I'd heard it. Know quite a few Tallulahs though

It's the make of a popular baby carrier. I like it, but I do just think of the sling. Lots of people with babies would maybe think of the sling too.

I prefer it with the 'O' than without, think it would help with pronunciation.

How about Thea?

I think they're related to Radley.

Ok there's bags, baby carriers and a hoob so far! Don't mind those links too much I don't think. It's clearly a love it or hate it name!

I think I prefer Tula to Toula as I like the meaning of Tula more and think it looks prettier.

Any middle name suggestions? Grin thanks for all your input so far Smile

I don't mind it actually. It doesn't go with our surname so it's a no go here, but if it wasn't I think I would bring it up with DH.

As for middle names... Something simple?

Tula Jane
Tula Rose?
