I posted yesterday asking for short, timeless names for a girl to follow sisters Lily and Eve so sorry for another post but..

Tula? My 12 year old came out with it last night! At first I wasn't sure but having looked it up this name is rare!

Obviously that's probably because people don't like it but perhaps not many have heard of it? It's a variant of Tallulah (a name I'm not keen on) and means 'leaping water'. I've been looking for a name with meaning and as my name means 'white water' it's basically the same meaning!

So..thoughts? It's pronounced 'too la' not 'chu la'.

Was tula not one of the hoobs?
I like it though, nice balance of unusual enough without being too out there for my tastes

Floggingmolly Mon 22-Feb-16 13:19:55

There's a very good reason it's rare!

luckiestgirlintheworld Mon 22-Feb-16 13:20:45

I like it

whatdoIget Mon 22-Feb-16 13:20:55

Isn't it a make of handbags?

Maroonie Mon 22-Feb-16 13:22:00

Quick Google shows it's also a city in Russia (still like it blush)

Humm Tooler? You do know what a tool is, yeah?

Or, she'll be called two lips!

Seriously, call her Tallulah, or Tallahassee (cue people singing Take Me To The Bridge) but "Tula not Choola" will be a bane for her. She'll hate you!

FaithAscending Mon 22-Feb-16 13:25:25

Its also a make of baby carrier.

FellOutOfBedTwice Mon 22-Feb-16 13:30:06

Isn't that the name of the main character in My Big Fat Greek Wedding?

HackerFucker22 Mon 22-Feb-16 13:30:20

It's the name of my friends elderly Greek Aunt (not sure of spelling though) so I always thought it was a Greek name?

Artandco Mon 22-Feb-16 13:33:34

I don't like it

What about:
Thalia/ Talia?

KoalaDownUnder Mon 22-Feb-16 13:37:42

Nah. Don't like.

What about Dahlia? Or Tatiana?

Jw35 Mon 22-Feb-16 13:47:41

Venus why two lips? confused

Yes it's a make of baby carrier and in my big fat Greek wedding her name was Toula and short for something like fatoula (not sure of correct name)!

Thanks for comments, I wasn't sure at first but starting to really love it! blush I think it sounds cute on a toddler and interesting for an adult?

I really dislike Tallulah it sounds weak and wishy washy and a bit too frilly for my taste.

Swollenankles83 Mon 22-Feb-16 13:49:32

Handbag brand! Sorry OP

Jw35 Mon 22-Feb-16 13:49:58

Yes it was one of the hoobs according to google! Not a lot of info on the name anywhere though. It's a Native American name apparently.

It can be Greek too although it's usually Toula in Greek

Jw35 Mon 22-Feb-16 13:50:48

Never heard of the handbag brand! Is it very obvious? Don't tend to buy flashy bags grin

CoreyTaylorsMask Mon 22-Feb-16 13:51:04

Came across a Toula a few weeks ago - first time I'd heard it. Know quite a few Tallulahs though

Shemozzle Mon 22-Feb-16 13:52:41

It's the make of a popular baby carrier. I like it, but I do just think of the sling. Lots of people with babies would maybe think of the sling too.

yumyumpoppycat Mon 22-Feb-16 13:53:34

I prefer it with the 'O' than without, think it would help with pronunciation.

thebiscuitindustry Mon 22-Feb-16 13:54:30

I don't like it. How about Tara or Talia?

candykane25 Mon 22-Feb-16 13:56:05

It's ok.

How about Thea?

BlueChampagne Mon 22-Feb-16 14:16:01

There's a Finnish name Tuula, which I like.

Sophronia Mon 22-Feb-16 14:18:29

the singer Tulisa's first name is Tula

Libitina Mon 22-Feb-16 14:19:04

Never heard of the handbag brand! Is it very obvious? Don't tend to buy flashy bags

I think they're related to Radley.

Jw35 Mon 22-Feb-16 14:30:22

Ok there's bags, baby carriers and a hoob so far! Don't mind those links too much I don't think. It's clearly a love it or hate it name!

I think I prefer Tula to Toula as I like the meaning of Tula more and think it looks prettier.

Any middle name suggestions? grin thanks for all your input so far smile
