Evelyn? too popular? Eleanor?

Help! Thought we cracked it but I'm worried about Eleanor (DH's fave). I've wanted Evie/Evelyn since I was a kid but is it too popular now? Florence was a contender too but again worried about it being too popular. Getting worried now!

I only know one Evelyn and one Florence so not overly popular ime, lovely names.

Evie and Ellie have both been very, very popular for a few years now. How about Edie?

Eleanor and Ellie are definitely popular and have been for a while, although they're both lovely. Personally I love Evelyn but it has a lot of family connections for me - great grandmother, mum and cousin are all called Evelyn. I'm amazed at it's sudden surge in popularity, I know quite a few and lots of Evie's as well. I do think Evelyn (not so much Evie) is quite classic though and won't date too badly. So it depends on how much it's popularity bothers you. My DD has a top ten name and in reality we rarely meet other children with the same name (but DD is delighted when we do!). DS has an uncommon but not unusual name (around 600th according to ONS) and we've already met another child with his name . So pick whatever you like best and don't get too hung up on popularity.

Evelyn is the name of the mother/grandmother in Two & A Half Men, that seriously puts me off it!

Eleanor is lovely though.

Eleanor is lovely and has a few other short forms which aren't as popular as Ellie, such as Nell or Norah

I have an Eleanor (6) She's the only one in primary, and think there's another in juniors, so not that popular.

She's 12 and have never been aware of any other girls in her year with the same name. It's a classic, go for it!!

I don't know any Eleanor or Evelyns, but do know lots of Ellies and Evies. So up to you whether you're going to shorten it or not, I like Nell as a short form of Eleanor, which is less popular.

I only know one Florence too - and I have two dds aged 6 & 4 so know lots of small girls!

I know 1 Evelyn and lots and lots of Evie's (aged 6 months to 6 years). I don't know any Eleanor or Ellie's. I know 3 Edie's ( aged 12 months and under )

Thanks guys. Something just doesn't feel 100% with Eleanor, but I have no idea what the alternative should be and it's stressing me out!

Love Evelyn, it's so pretty (love the nickname Evie too!)

Eleanor is nice too, but I would only pick it if you love Ellie... She's bound to get it at school...

In my dd's class year 6 there are two Eleanors and two Ellens. So very popular around here. I know lots of Evies and Ellies but no Evelyns (apart from a 70 year old.)

I have an Eleanor (5) which I think is beautiful. She has been shortened to Ellie since starting school, but she is the only one I her infant school of nearly 400! As a teacher myself eleanors have always been lovely too and not overly common! Ella on the other hand....there seems to be a lot! Evelyn is lively to, but eve and Evie, and Elsie are extremely common now!

I love both. Good classic names but without any fusty/old-fashionedness.

Evelyn never really went out of fashion in Ireland where I'm from, and I know a few. I am considering both names for our baby due this summer.

I would add that yes, Ellie/Eve/Evie are getting extremely common, but Eleanor as a full name, while still very popular, is further down the lists. I would use Nora as a nickname.

Florence getting steadily more popular (anything to do with David Cameron's daughter? Although personally that would put me off if anything).
