And which of these two spellings do you prefer - Isabel or Isabelle.

Cel982 Fri 19-Feb-16 19:57:30

Pretty much, yeah. Isabel is my favourite spelling.

StitchesInTime Fri 19-Feb-16 19:57:40

I'd pronounce them the same.

I prefer the Isabel spelling.

LettuceLaughton Fri 19-Feb-16 19:58:55

Very slight difference - IsAbel vs IsObel.

EmmaWoodlouse Fri 19-Feb-16 20:03:54

I don't hear any difference at all as the middle syllable is usually just a neutral "uh". I like Isabel best too. Isobel looks slightly like it should be pronounced like isobar!

GiraffeHouse Fri 19-Feb-16 20:04:46

They sound the same.
Isobel is my favourite

NoCapes Fri 19-Feb-16 20:08:15

They're the same name
Isobel is the best spelling (I may be biased as DD is Isobel grin)

DramaAlpaca Fri 19-Feb-16 20:08:43

Yes they are pronounced the same. I prefer the spelling Isabel.

AmberNectarine Fri 19-Feb-16 20:08:50

My DD is Isabelle so that is my preference!

Sophronia Fri 19-Feb-16 20:11:11

I pronounce them the same. I prefer Isobel.

StayGoldPonyBoy Fri 19-Feb-16 20:13:25

I say Isahbelle or Isohbell but the difference is hardly noticeable!

SimonLeBonOnAndOn Fri 19-Feb-16 20:17:17

Isobel was my favourite girls name but never got to use it.

NNalreadyinuse Fri 19-Feb-16 20:17:45

I thought Isobel was the Scottish spelling.
I think they are slightly different in pronunciation. Of the two spellings you asked about, I prefer Isabel.

BellaDona Fri 19-Feb-16 20:23:52

Apparently they are all pronounced the same, angry but Isabel is the only correct spelling. grin
But most people in the UK tend to write Isabelle or Isobel.

HerbieRidesAgain Fri 19-Feb-16 20:24:24

I like Isabel, and personally wouldn't shorten it but if I was going to or knew for sure she would get Belle then I'd go for Isabelle

Elllicam Fri 19-Feb-16 20:25:57

I would say Is-ah-bel and Is-oh-bel.

Scoose Fri 19-Feb-16 20:26:30

My one is Isabelle too so I prefer this

Alisvolatpropiis Fri 19-Feb-16 21:39:19

I'd say them ever so slightly differently but for all intents and purposes they sound the same.

KatieT12 Fri 19-Feb-16 23:17:21

Very slightly different, IMO: IsAbelle/IsObel

I prefer the Isabelle spelling smile

Trickytricky Fri 19-Feb-16 23:25:38

Isobel is the Scottish spelling. All pronounced the same Isabelle/Isobel/Isabel

MargotLovedTom Fri 19-Feb-16 23:39:50

Isabel makes me want to go all Spanish and say "Eeess-a-bel" wink. I prefer Isobel.

thebiscuitindustry Sat 20-Feb-16 00:20:46

I'd pronounce them the same.

I like the spelling Isabelle.

CityFox Sat 20-Feb-16 07:46:00

Isobel is the Scottish spelling. Both are 'correct'.

CityFox Sat 20-Feb-16 07:46:44

Meant to add they are pronounced the same.

Sofiria Sat 20-Feb-16 11:41:20

I'd pronounce them slightly differently - Isabel(le) with a definite /a/ sound, and Isobel with more of a schwa (is-uh-bel).
