Baby names

Sadie or Naomi?

So we'd more or less settled on Naomi, after pondering Leah. But although I love Naomi there is something about the mouth feel of the name which I find hard.... I've got to think before I say it, every time. I also find DH and I say it differently very often, we'll switch between Ny-omi, Neigh-omi and even occasionally Neyo-MI.

I keep returning back to Sadie. It was on the long list but we didn't dwell on it but I just keep going back to it. It sounds great with our surname, I think (Friedmann).

Any thoughts?

The other thing is we have very close friends who have a lttle baby named Sylvie. They won't mind at all but do you think Sadie/Sylvie are too similar? I have no doubt we'll be friends for life.

DS is Jonah. Please, any suggestions or views on the above would be appreciated!

I think jonah and Naomi sounds like a tongue twister. I am biased though Sadie is one of my absolute favourite names.

I love both of these names! I think they are both sweet, and modern and lovely!

I would say Sadie is 'cuter' and Naomi is more 'Grown-Up'. Naomi is possibly a bit more 'exotic' but i think Sadie is slightly more unusual at the moment. Both would grow up into a beautiful young lady!

I would personally pronounce Naomi (Neigh-omi)

Both lovely names. I would normally say Naomi but I do think Sadie sounds good with your surname.

I prefer Sadie, I don't like Naomi, due to the many different ways people say it.

I love Sadie - its the middle name of one of my dds - occasionally I regret not using it as a first name. Naomi is nice but I instinctively pronounce it as Ni omi.

I like both, but the pronunciation issues with Naomi would bother me.

So I vote for Sadie, which as you say sounds great with your surname.

Oh, and Sadie isn't the least bit similar to Sylvie, so you'd be OK there I'm sure.

I don't particularly like Sadie, it sounds a bit harsh.

Naomi is a lovely name and I think you'd soon settle on one pronounciation. My favourite is NAY-oh-mi.

Naomi.
Sadie sounds like an old lady's name - no offence meant.

I much, much, much prefer Naomi. I have an irrational dislike of Sadie.

I like Leah best though.

I love Leah (my DD's name). Naomi is ok but I would think you'd always get people pronouncing it "wrong". In Scotland Sadie tends to be a nn for Sarah.

Go with Leah Grin

Love Naomi.
Sadie sounds too similar to sadist. (Although not similar to Sylvie, so I don't see that as a problem.)
