Someone I know had a baby and has text me the name. Masie Ellysse. How would you pronounce them?

Is Masie like Macey (may-see), or like Maisie (may-zee)?

Is Ellysse like Elise, Ellis, Alice with an E not an A or something else?

No it's not. It's Ellyse. Masie Ellyse.

When I read them I said them as May-zee Elise but I could be wrong!

I would guess that Masie is pronounced Mar-see unless it's a typo for Maisie perhaps.

I'd pronounce Elysse like Elise.

Honestly, you're perfectly justified in just asking the parents, next time you see them, how they intend these names to be pronounced. You could be expected to know how to pronounce Macey Elise or Maisie Ellis, but if these parents have gone the 'let's choose ordinary enough names and play with the spelling for a hint of uniqueness' route, then all bets are off, because it's no longer so obvious what names they are riffing off.

Elysse written down looks slightly like a brand of shampoo.

I would assume Maisie Elise, but I'd check with the parents first. There are different ways to pronounce quite a few names so it's fair enough.

I would also assume Maisie Elise

So would I.
Really weird spelling though and neither name is spelt as is sounds.
If they did it would be something like
Mah-see El-llis which doesn't sound intentional

mazzy, eleese

I think it's pronounced "Give me a dictionary of names" Wink

Seriously though, as others have said, I'd go for Mayzee Eleese unless told otherwise.

Could be Maisie or Macey but the second must be Elise.

GoldPlatedBacon · 17/02/2016 15:27

I would assume Macey Elise but suspect it's Maisy Elise

They are probably pronounced Maisie Elise but their parents are illiterate

I work with an Elysse and didn't think it that bizarre. Blush

Pronounced Elise although she mainly goes by Ellie.

If I wasn't looking to hard I'd read it as Maisie I guess.

Looking at the spelling maybe
Mass- ee or maybe Maz- ee (with short 'a's)

Looks all wrong to me!

Oh dear.

I once came across a Phoebe pronounced Po-ebb.

Aunt Jane really - actual first hand meeting or "friend of a friend"?

I once met an Irish teacher who swore to me she did supply in a class with a girl called Yvonne, pronounced "ee-von-ee".

Jessie - Student of a teacher I know. I'd also heard of an apocryphal Australian child called "why-von-ee", who sounds as though she could be related to your Irish child.

I narrowly missed being named Penny-lope as my Mum thought that was how you pronounced it!

crapfatbanana · 25/02/2016 19:03

I would want to say Maisie Elise but would just ask the friend!
