Baby names

Please rip my girls name list to shreds!

We have a boys name all sorted and ready to go. Girls names are proving difficult to say the least. I'm a bit meh about all of them. Going round in circles is not helping.

Flora
Florence
Martha
Isla
Orla
Beatrice

Feel free to suggest more. It's giving me a headache. Tia.

I love Flora. Use Flora.

I shall tell you what MNers will be keen to say to rip them to shreds:

Flora - spreads like butter
Orla - too similar to oral
Isla - too common
Martha - too frumpy

I think they'll like Beatrice Grin

I do worry about the butter link of Flora.

When my friends told me she was considering Beatrice for her baby I thought she was joking and laughed.
She was not impressed.
I don't know why but I just can't take the name seriously.

Isla and Orla are ok. Martha is bearable. I'm not a fan of Flora or Florence.

I like them all except Flora. As PP suggested, Fleur is nicer/less buttery! I don't think Martha is frumpy at all, it's really pretty, as is Orla. They're my 2 favourites.

Is it still a current ad? I haven't seen it for years, maybe her peers would have no clue. Although I don't think its a problem anyway. You always get posters without fail popping up on 'William' threads saying "oh no not William, he'll get teased and called Willy"...but guess what, my teen William has never been teased with Willy, I am so pleased MN wasn't around when I was baby naming.

I'm sorry, they are all having a moment and to me that makes them all really boring. Isla and orla especially. Florence and Beatrice are the nicest but not spectacular.

Not keen on Isla or Orla but love the rest.

I can't quite like Flora as a name, I want to but there is the margerine and the whole trend for talking about intestinal flora!

I love the name Isla, but think it is very overused atm. Florence I quite like, but if being harsh is also a bit overused and sounds a bit like 'florid', also don't like nn Florry or Flo. Orla did autocorrect to oral and I think unless you make a real effort to pronounce it properly, which most people won't, it can sound a bit unattractive. I can imagine it being murdered by certain accents.

Beatrice is ok, a little bit staid maybe. Martha is nice although can see why a pp suggested some would call it frumpy.

Flora - butter! I'm not keen.
Florence - I'm also not keen.
Martha - old lady, IMO.
Isla - I really like it.
Orla - nope!
Beatrice - really dislike Blush

Isla, 100% Smile if I had to pick a second, Florence!

Adore Martha, that was second choice for dd. But I do like old lady names. Also love Florence. Orla yes and no, not in the UK as people can't pronounce it.

Oh I don't really like flora, Beatrice or isla but have nothing against them in particular other than to me they sound a bit posh English! I'm Irish. Grin

Florence - too popular
Martha - frumpalicious
Isla - too popular
Orla - just an ugly sound
Beatrice - OK but I prefer Beatrix

Flora margerine.
Florence. Once I would have said Yes, but it's gotton very tedious now.
Martha. Very harsh sounding. Don't like it
Orla. No it's awful
Isla. Is beautiful but again over used.
Beatrice. Is okay, but nothing special
