Please rip my girls name list to shreds!

We have a boys name all sorted and ready to go. Girls names are proving difficult to say the least. I'm a bit meh about all of them. Going round in circles is not helping.

Feel free to suggest more. It's giving me a headache. Tia.

I love Flora. Use Flora.

I shall tell you what MNers will be keen to say to rip them to shreds:

Flora - spreads like butter
Orla - too similar to oral
Isla - too common
Martha - too frumpy

I think they'll like Beatrice grin

cecilelliott Tue 16-Feb-16 20:06:42

Yes, I love Flora too- gorgeous, classic name and little used.

MissFlight Tue 16-Feb-16 20:08:02

I prefer Fleur to Flora.

HeyManIJustWantSomeMuesli Tue 16-Feb-16 20:09:19

Orla is wonderful!

fluffypenguinbelly Tue 16-Feb-16 20:12:10

I do worry about the butter link of Flora.

alltouchedout Tue 16-Feb-16 20:13:06

When my friends told me she was considering Beatrice for her baby I thought she was joking and laughed.
She was not impressed.
I don't know why but I just can't take the name seriously.

Isla and Orla are ok. Martha is bearable. I'm not a fan of Flora or Florence.

toffeeboffin Tue 16-Feb-16 20:13:23

Love them all except Flora and Martha.

Beatrice is my favourite.

Sgoinneal Tue 16-Feb-16 20:13:30

Flora - I love it but some will say bovine and some will say margarine
Florence - not so keen, too staid
Martha - love, was on shortlist if ds had been a girl, only behind...
Orla - beautiful, elegant. Getting more popular in Scotland, not sure where you are
Isla - nice but v popular
Beatrice - same as Florence

exWifebeginsat40 Tue 16-Feb-16 20:14:02

how about Marnie?

toffeeboffin Tue 16-Feb-16 20:14:23

I am just such a cliché!

Keeptrudging Tue 16-Feb-16 20:15:28

I like them all except Flora. As PP suggested, Fleur is nicer/less buttery! I don't think Martha is frumpy at all, it's really pretty, as is Orla. They're my 2 favourites.

ThroughThickAndThin01 Tue 16-Feb-16 20:16:47

Is it still a current ad? I haven't seen it for years, maybe her peers would have no clue. Although I don't think its a problem anyway. You always get posters without fail popping up on 'William' threads saying "oh no not William, he'll get teased and called Willy"...but guess what, my teen William has never been teased with Willy, I am so pleased MN wasn't around when I was baby naming.

VinceNoirLovesHowardMoon Tue 16-Feb-16 20:17:28

I'm sorry, they are all having a moment and to me that makes them all really boring. Isla and orla especially. Florence and Beatrice are the nicest but not spectacular.

iknowimcoming Tue 16-Feb-16 20:18:11

I like them all except Beatrice. Also what about Claudia, have a friend who named her dd that and it's not common but also not unusual/odd iykwim? But I also love Matilda smile can I ask what the boys name is <nosey>

MidnightRun Tue 16-Feb-16 20:19:01

I'm due any day and wanted Martha or Nora.. DH said no to both..

I love love orla! Its not popular at all where I live, wish we'd thought of it before we chose our Dd's name X

Ham69 Tue 16-Feb-16 20:21:07

Not keen on Isla or Orla but love the rest.

temporaryusername Tue 16-Feb-16 20:21:26

I can't quite like Flora as a name, I want to but there is the margerine and the whole trend for talking about intestinal flora!

I love the name Isla, but think it is very overused atm. Florence I quite like, but if being harsh is also a bit overused and sounds a bit like 'florid', also don't like nn Florry or Flo. Orla did autocorrect to oral and I think unless you make a real effort to pronounce it properly, which most people won't, it can sound a bit unattractive. I can imagine it being murdered by certain accents.

Beatrice is ok, a little bit staid maybe. Martha is nice although can see why a pp suggested some would call it frumpy.

Love your names except Flora. Florence or Orla are my favourites,

Izzieee Tue 16-Feb-16 20:42:17

Flora - butter! I'm not keen.
Florence - I'm also not keen.
Martha - old lady, IMO.
Isla - I really like it.
Orla - nope!
Beatrice - really dislike blush

Isla, 100% smile if I had to pick a second, Florence!

TheFear Tue 16-Feb-16 20:44:02

Adore Martha, that was second choice for dd. But I do like old lady names. Also love Florence. Orla yes and no, not in the UK as people can't pronounce it.

Sophronia Tue 16-Feb-16 20:44:15

Martha, Flora and Beatrice are my favourites.

TheFear Tue 16-Feb-16 20:45:20

Oh I don't really like flora, Beatrice or isla but have nothing against them in particular other than to me they sound a bit posh English! I'm Irish. grin

HeyNonnyMaybe Tue 16-Feb-16 20:52:10

Flora - fine but the marg connection would put me off
Florence - too popular
Martha - frumpalicious
Isla - too popular
Orla - just an ugly sound
Beatrice - OK but I prefer Beatrix

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost Tue 16-Feb-16 20:58:15

Flora is horrible .Like Laura gone wrong.
Flora margerine.
Florence. Once I would have said Yes, but it's gotton very tedious now.
Martha. Very harsh sounding. Don't like it
Orla. No it's awful
Isla. Is beautiful but again over used.
Beatrice. Is okay, but nothing special
