Who decided the name?

Was it a name you chose and DP agreed / liked it? The other way round? Were you lucky and you both chose the name? Did one of you have to fight to the death?

I like DD's name, it was on my list, maybe not my top choice. However, it was the only girls name DH would consider, so in my mind he chose IYSWIM?

DH suggested DD's name when we were talking about ttc. I wasn't a big fan, but it grew on me and is perfect for her. He chose the name we will probably use for DS too (6 months pregnant) but it is a name I already like.

I suggested DD's name to DP. It had been my baby girl name since I was 12!

DP loved it although I was always offering suggestions and fell in love with a different name. But ultimately DP decided as I told him under no circumstances was I not using the boys name I wanted Grin

Did you know the gender with your DD? We didn't find out, but can't decide whether to this time round? It would help with the name debate!

I was quite mentally and physically ill after the birth of our son. None of the names I loved suited him and I was in no fit state to think of others. On day 6 dh suggested his now name and it suited him perfectly so we went with it. I choose his middle names a few days later when I had time to think.

I chose all the names both times. DH wasn't keen for DD2's, but preservered.

DH chose Ds' name. I didn't like it for years and called him a nn until one day, 5yrs old and in yr1 he decided he wanted to be known by his full name. It suits him now. I chose his middle name which is welsh.
I named dd with DH's first choice of name becoming her middle name.

DH suggested DS's name as a joke, but I decided I really liked it. He still wasn't sure up until the birth, but after watching me give birth, I think he would have let me have the choice of anything at that point Grin
With DD, we had a favourite name each. Neither of us could get on board with the other's name, so we had a stalemate for a couple of days. The only name that matched on our separate lists didn't sound quite right with our surname, so we decided to go with another very very similar name (one letter different but sounds different, think Anne vs Anna, but not that), that went better with our surname. It has turned out to be perfect for her and I'm so glad we didn't go with either of our original favourites Smile

DS was to be called something else until he was 2 days old. DH and I hadn't told anyone though.
DS and I were both very ill after he was born and I didn't see him for 48 hours. When I saw him his agreed on name didn't suit him at all.
Luckily DH liked the name too and we added DH's as a middle name. It suits him absolutely perfectly.

I don't think I could push a name DH didn't like? But I'd be happy with a 60/40 input my way Grin

I did, all 3 of them

I'd suggest names and DH would shoot them down, eg Cyrus ....the virus. Phineas....fogg

Then after a few weeks or months I'd say the name and he'd go, perfect, let's use it! Hmm

We sent an email to each other with 6 names on it. Dd's name was the only one on both lists

Both loved ds1's name from long before we had him. No agreement with ds2 so we each listen 30 names, picked the mere 5 that overlapped, put them in the order we liked them & assigned numerical value to the places & top scoring won! Not a method for everyone!

Antiquity that sounds very organised! I asked DH for a list of girls names last time, it never materialised...

Me, both times. DH can't decide what to have for breakfast, let skint what to call a child.

Silver - I can't imagine ds called anything else now. It's unusual and DH was teaching children martial arts at the time. Like any teacher he wanted a name he had no association with which I understood, so Charlie, Jack & Noah weren't quite cutting it.
By the time dd was born he was in a different field with more long term prospects. As happens, dd's name is also quite unusual (for our area at least).

I suggested the names for all three DC & DH agreed with me. It was a surprisingly easy process.

We found out DS's sex at 16 weeks but we still hadn't decided upon a name until about 36/37 weeks.

Nothing really stood out for me at all and nor did it for my DH, we frequently chatted about names but couldn't find something that either of us particularly liked.

DH came up with DS's name and I agreed to it because I didn't have any other ideas Grin

It took me a good while to get used to it and I don't feel like he really suited the name until he was about 5/6 months old but I absolutely love it now.

My DH is fairly laid back about everything! So choosing a name we both loved was difficult because a lot of the time he didn't dislike a name and it wasn't a no from him. Having said that, despite having to carry a baby to term and labour etc I didn't feel that I had any more say than him, so we both had to agree on a name we both loved.
