Yes to Laurel, May and Iris.
Sorry but the rest are awful (Damson Confused).

Laurel May is lovely though.

Love Laurel and Iris.

toffeeboffin · 12/02/2016 12:35

What about spelling it Laurelle? Or is that just cheesy?

Report
Walshie123 · 12/02/2016 12:37

I love it spelt Laurelle!

Report
BillMurrey · 12/02/2016 12:54

Laurelle sounds like a washing powder or a contraceptive pill.

squoosh · 12/02/2016 12:58

Although I've never heard it used as a person's name 'damson' is actually one of my favourite words. So pleasing to say!

Meredith or Merryn, NN Merry

Report
MrsCaecilius · 12/02/2016 13:48

Merrily or Merry - love it, Merrily full name, Merry nn
Lavender - too old lady for me, Lav as a nn would be a no no
Damson - cool as a middle name, I'd be tempted to call her Gin...
Laurel - like, a bit dark
Daphne - too fluffy for me (Daphne in Neighbours, you can date me fro that!) Don;t like Daph or Daffy as nn
May - too many of them
Iris - really lovely!

Report
TempsPerdu · 12/02/2016 14:34

Merrily or Merry - Merrily too twee. Meredith and Merryn are both fabulous though, and much stronger names. Merry's a great nn!
Lavender - no, makes I think of old ladies, drawer liners and mothballs! And 'Lav' as a nn...?
Damson - I rarely say this, but it's not really a name! (Maybe a mn at a push?)
Laurel - OK
Daphne - lovely, I'm a huge fan of this! Love the
May - OK, a bit bland and overused in all its Ellie-May/Lily-May incarnations
Iris - nice

A few more suggestions:
Zinnia
Hazel
Aster
Sorrel
Viola
Maeve
Juno
Cleo
Verity
Sylvie

Allalonenow · 12/02/2016 14:40

Not keen on Damson, she would probably be called Jam as a nn.

Report
Sophronia · 12/02/2016 15:13

I like Lavender, Daphne and Iris

Merrily or Merry - reminds of Lord of the rings. I knew a girl called Merrily and I always wanted to burst into various songs when I was around her.
Lavender - nickname Lav..?
Damson - meh
Laurel - lovely
Daphne - lovely
May - dull
Iris - meh

HeteronormativeHaybales · 12/02/2016 15:47

Please don't call her Merrily. How about Meriel?
Iris is my stand-out favourite from your list. Laurel wouldn't be my choice but it has quite a cool ring to it, I think. Not keen on the others.

A relative is called Zinnia it's adorable.

Merrily or Merry - a better name for a pony, sorry
Lavender - lovely but shortened to 'Lav' not so much
Damson - lovely but again, 'Dam'?
Laurel - very pretty.
Daphne - adore.
May - too many Somthing-Mae's around here.
Iris - adore.

I love the idea of Aster, but in a lot of accents/said quickly it sounds exactly like Asda. Love Maeve. Verity/Sylvie too granny. Juno and Cleo better names for black labradors. Love Hazel, Viola I'm on the fence ("Vi'?). Sorrel - not keen, it's not a pretty name or herb imho.

(I know none of those last chunk were on your original list but in for a penny in for a pound.)

Suggestions for other 'nature' names:
Cora
Summer
Rain
Rowan

You have made some lovely choices OP- they are very beautiful and Springlike names! My only thought would be that Lavendar would be shortened to Lav.

Iris is beautiful, as is Laurel. How about Merrion? It's a pretty Welsh name.

The first 3 names on your list sound silly IMO, especially Merrily. Laurel is a bit twee for me. The last 3 are fine, Iris is my favourite. May is used a LOT as a middle name as you probably know so I'm slightly bored of it. I know 3 Daphne's under 2 so it is becoming more popular (which may not bother you at all).

Merrily. Row row row your boat gently down the steam, "merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily. Life is like a dream.
Nice name though.
Lavender. Gorgeous name, makes me think of the plant but all of the song, Lavender's blue dilly dilly Lavender's green. When I am king dilly dilly. You will be queen. The only thing that would put me off is the potential nn Lav.
Damsen. Oh I think it's very sweet and different.
Laurel. Not too fussed. Tok harsh sounding. IMO.
Daphne. I like it. It makes me think of a little girl with curly platnium blond hair with bright blue eyes.
May. Lovely and seemingly very underused as a first name
Iris. No I don't like it. Is an Iris not a part of the eye. One of the worse girls names there is. IMO, Sorry to any Iris' out there or mummies/daddies of Iris'.

Other suggestions just to add to the mix.
Meadow
Willow
Willa
Persephone
Lilia, makes a refreshing change from the over used Lily.
Poppy
Ferne
Coco
Oceania
Marina
Clover
Derryn
Rosa
Opal
Ruby
Jade
Jasmine
Oak
Hazel
Oakley
Heather
Lilac
Freesia
Patrice
Genevive
Bramble
Bryony
Taryn

Stick with Laurel May.

Report
squoosh · 12/02/2016 17:52

Laurel is lovely. But adding May makes it sound a bit country and western.

Report
squoosh · 12/02/2016 17:52

I really love Zinnia as mentioned by glitterspy.

Argh! Thank you for all the responses and lovely suggestions (even more confused now!).

My original, orginal name was going to be Meredith with Merry or Edie for short but the shine wore off after a week.

I agree that May is too common as a middle name.

What about Laurel Marie? Or a friend just suggested Molly, which I like (for now!).
