Dennis?

DH would love to name DS after his grandfather. Dennis seems to be one of those grandad-chic names that hasn't come back and I'm not sure although pregnancy hormones mean it's a serious contender now when I wouldn't have considered it before.

I do genuinely like Denny and this would probably be what we would call him day to day.

So, is Dennis awful?

No, not at all. Much better than some names currently trending.

It's awful!

Like Barry. Or Norman. Or Trevor.

I work in a neonatal unit and we recently had a Dennis, I think it's lovely.

I was hoping for a unanimous opinion. This is no help!!

I am feeling very uninspired by boys names.

Only reason I don't like it is because I work
with a twat called Dennis and I associate the name with him

Yes dontkill associating names with people is very off putting. I work in a school so have negative associations with quite a few names which is not helping!

Brilliant name. I knew a great adult Dennis a while back.

Denny is a nice NN too.

You're never going to get consensus on MN! Unless everyone hates it that is.

I like it and encountered a small one recently, whose NN was Denny.

It would be unusual, though I think there are a few around. I would put it in the same category as Richard, rather than the Barry/Trevor/Norman club.

Im surprised it's getting anyone saying it's ok. I wouldn't use it. And it's nothing like Richard! I know quite a few Richards of all ages including several children, and I know only one Dennis (a 40 year old plumber). But I like Dennis Waterman, so it gets my approval after all.

If you don't mind changing one letter then Lenny is quite nice!

Love it, especially with Denny as a nn.

Maybe as a middle name which your DS can be known by?

But I would definitely not name my DS Dennis, sorry.

Would you like someone to explain the concept of nick names? Grin

Denny is a cute nn but I don't like Dennis at all. In the same camp as Trevor for me. But 10 years ago I would have said similar things about Arthur and now it's all the rage. So maybe you're just ahead of the times!

Thanks everyone. I think I'm probably not brave enough even if we are just ahead of the times mclaren.
