Never heard of it and looks hard to pronounce. Not sure what culture it's from?

DickDewy Wed 03-Feb-16 19:24:05

Is it made up?

CocktailQueen Wed 03-Feb-16 19:24:15

Sounds very like Amelia (if that's how it's pronounced ) so I think you'll have trouble with that - people will constantly be mishearing it.

Why not call her Amelia? Lovely name.

How is it pronounced?

ChessieFL Wed 03-Feb-16 19:26:06

How is it pronounced? I think most people will struggle to know how to pronounce or spell it tbh

Normandy144 Wed 03-Feb-16 19:28:48

Assuming it's pronounced An-eh-lee-ah? I'm not keen on the spelling - looks like a made up name. What about Annelisa or Amalia?

Foxsox Wed 03-Feb-16 19:29:44

She will spend her whole life saying it's not Amelia

Jayl111 Wed 03-Feb-16 19:34:32

Yes it's pronounced an-eh-lee-ah. It's a real name girl who my mum taught was called it, that's where I hear it about 10 years ago. I work with children myself and Amelia's are everywhere so that's a no go. Just so stuck for a girl name and at the minute that is the only one I keep coming back to.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost Wed 03-Feb-16 19:35:37

It's like Amelia gone wrong

QuietWhenReading Wed 03-Feb-16 19:38:26

Well it's not that far from Anneli, which is a very pretty Finnish name.

Sophronia Wed 03-Feb-16 21:50:06

How about Annelie, Annelia or Annalia instead?

PooDogMillionaire Wed 03-Feb-16 22:04:20

Spelt Annelia, surely?!

I'd say anything that's not obvious how to say it has be to off the list. And if you don't don't Amelia, there's no point calling your baby practically the same name but with one letter changed. not at all helpful

manicinsomniac Thu 04-Feb-16 12:59:32

I know an Anna-Leah? Sounds kind of the same. Aneliya looks very strange somehow.

Other than Amelia, how about Aaliyah (or Aliya if you want it to look more English), Anika, Annalise, Anna or Leah?

IoraRua Thu 04-Feb-16 13:01:12

I like it. Although if you want something to stand out from a zillion Amelias, I don't think that this is the way to go.
Bollocks to the idea that anything hard to pronounce should be off - that would rule out a lot of names from around the world. Even Amelia - I know an Am-may-lia and an Am-meel-ia.

Vixxfacee Thu 04-Feb-16 13:02:38

It's terrible.

For a girl what about anaya?

NotAQueef Thu 04-Feb-16 13:07:34

What about Analia (A-na-lee-ah) - used to work with someone called this. They were from Argentina. beautiful name and less confusing in terms of pronounciation than Aneliya

VoldysGoneMouldy Thu 04-Feb-16 13:31:37

Sounds made up.

FairiesAreReal Thu 04-Feb-16 13:37:41

Spelt Annelia, surely?!
Yes it is ok when spelt like this

(To the people saying it is made up - all names are made up!!!!)

MarieJeanne Thu 04-Feb-16 17:57:35

Awful. Just because some other poor girl had this name doesn't make it a proper name imo.
