Opinions on Erica?

Seriously irrelevant to me, but a family member is considering it and wondering on opinions.

Nice name, but IMO its more of a name sake name for example. You'd have to have a dad, grandad, uncle named Eric to carry it off. My DD has a friend named Erica, she was named after both her grandads (Eric) and the first thing she gets asked when introducing herself is. Who were you called after or is your dad called Eric.

When I was 7(ish) I saw the film adaptation of Roald Dahl's The Witches.

For quite some time thereafter I was obsessed with the name Erica.

I like it still.

It's a very nice name--pretty but not too frilly sounding.

I wouldn't assume "namesake from Eric" at all!

BikeRunSki Mon 01-Feb-16 02:47:38

I don't like it, but I also don't like Eric.

Crusoe Mon 01-Feb-16 06:30:06

Love it!

I quite like Erica.

Eric is a great name and due a comeback.

I don't like it, it sounds quite harsh. I'm not generally a fan of male names which have been given a female version eg. by adding an "a" onto the end or whatever. I don't like Eric either though.

I like Erica, agree with the pretty-but-not-frilly description

chrome100 Mon 01-Feb-16 12:34:44

I really like it!

BeautyIsTruth Mon 01-Feb-16 12:36:34

I love Erica, it's a very strong name but I like that. It'll stand out amongst all the girly names that are popular at the moment like Poppy, Maisie etc.

Also, I don't think of it as just Eric with an a tacked on the end. I think it's Latin for heather or it's some species of heather anyway so it has its own history and meaning.

IoraRua Mon 01-Feb-16 12:47:20

I like it.

WhyCantIuseTheNameIWant Mon 01-Feb-16 14:10:46

It's nice, but you need to spell it

Airwrecker

Seriously, it's a refreshing change from elli/Elle/Ella/Ellie Eva/Evie/Ava...

MamaMotherMummy Mon 01-Feb-16 14:16:59

I adore the name Erica. Sounds pretty but substantial.

I don't like the name Eric, though.

I met an 8 year old Erica in the summer and she was gorgeous, a really quirky, bright little thing and the name was perfect on her. Since then I've loved it!

KoalaDownUnder Wed 03-Feb-16 11:37:25

I really dislike it. And Eric.

It sounds harsh and not pretty at all.

Helmetbymidnight Wed 03-Feb-16 11:43:11

Love it. Maybe because I knew a French Erica and she was completely cool.

Vixxfacee Wed 03-Feb-16 12:00:03

I think erica mena

YouMakeMyDreams Wed 03-Feb-16 12:03:06

I like it and am totally surprised it has never occurred to me as a name choice when naming my three.
Ds2's middle name is Eric after his grandad.
I have also read it so many times on this thread it had stopped sounding like a real name.

Mynd Thu 04-Feb-16 21:53:02

I love Erica. It means heather.

MaryRobinson Fri 05-Feb-16 02:47:17

I really like it , but would assume there was an Eric in the family tree

MissLiv Fri 05-Feb-16 13:18:37

I like it; I wouldn't assume there was an Eric in the family...

Helmetbymidnight Fri 05-Feb-16 14:47:11

I wouldn't assume it.

Anyone remember Erica Jong? Her book had a profound influence on me smile

I like it, and Eric too. Underused names. Along the same lines as Francesca, Ramona.

Sophronia Fri 05-Feb-16 14:52:27

I like it, and like the association with heather.
