Deirdre is due a revival.

Dearbhla! smile

TheCatsMeow Sun 31-Jan-16 19:29:04

It's pronounced "Dervla", not Dear-Blah...

Dearbhla. I'm guessing it's pronounced like Dervla Kirwan?

I love love love Dearbhla. Alas, I'm second generation, in the UK, otherwise I would have that name if dc3 turns out to be a girl. Lovely. No competition at all between it and Liberty.

I love Irish names, but never know how to pronounce them, some Scots name have me confused too.

I love Liberty, but it depends if you want a local name or not.

If you are in Ireland then Dearbhla, out of Ireland no..she will spend the rest of her life explaining.

I do like Liberty though.

I'm English, living in England, and I know how to pronounce it.

YeOldeTrout Sun 31-Jan-16 19:31:27

Ah, like Dervla Murphy. But she spelt it exaclty like that.
Liberty is fine, too.

Passmethecrisps Sun 31-Jan-16 19:31:43

Is it pronounced dervla. Like in that drama with the priest?

Katie Liberty and Dearblah are really different. I would go for Dearblah of you have a connection to it

turdfairynomore Sun 31-Jan-16 19:33:15

Dearbhla! Love it. (And Caoimhe. And Cliodhna.....even though you didn't ask for alternatives!! Sorry!!)

IoraRua Sun 31-Jan-16 19:33:23

Katie is a bit meh.
Liberty is alright but Dearbhla is just nicer.

DramaAlpaca Sun 31-Jan-16 19:34:04

Dearbhla will be fine in Ireland as everyone will know how to say it.

I much prefer it to Liberty.

Pipistrella Sun 31-Jan-16 19:38:02

All are lovely.

VeryPunny Sun 31-Jan-16 19:42:47

Dearbhla, great name. I also considered Daireann for DC2, but he was a boy.

mrsschu Sun 31-Jan-16 19:43:21

Dearbhla. 100%. And if you're in Ireland it's easy to use that spelling. Liberty sounds pretty ridiculous IMO.

Liberty smile
Personally not keen on the sound of dearblha

Rinceoir Sun 31-Jan-16 20:52:11

I love the name Dearbhla.

Kind of looses its meaning.
