Booked in for elcs next week. Still no name. Ideally I want something strong but not overly common/used. Came across Jonas last night. Just wondered what the general opinion was.

I love it and haven't heard it apart from a 12 year old boy I know.

I like it. Also like Jonah.

The more I think of it the more I am completely loving it (also like Jonah too). It's now making me hope this baby is going to be a boy!! Just need to convince dh (who is stubborn and will probably
Immediately find a reason why he doesn't like it).

Love it.

Awesome song by Weezer called My Name Is Jonas.

I think Jonas is a lovely name and so unusual.

Thanks for the positivity! I think I'm so sold on this (it's only taken my 9 months to stumble upon it). If you could come up with an equally fab girls name I would be indebted!!

I like it, I know one teenage Jonas who is German (pronounced yo-nas there).

I like it.

It's also has a historical reference to the snow storm that swept the US last week.
Brilliant name.

I've got one! He's lush, so I'd say go for it.

Love the storm reference!

Enjoy does your Jonas have a sister? I'm trying to find an equally fab girls name (in case this isn't a boy!!)

I imagine Jonas to have a sister called Lena pronounced lay-na

Jonas is a very strong name, well done! I also love the timing with the storm, feels like it was meant to be and a great story for your son. We're in the U.S and it's still going strong in NYC. The most amazing snow storm - incredibley beautiful - I feel like I want to send you photos for posterity hehe! (Looks like you have some girl storm names on the post above too, just in case!)

I don't know how you are thinking of saying it but I'd pronounce it 'Yonas' as it's Danish?

I don't like it pronounced the other way (with a strong J )

So knowing everyone in the UK would probably say it like that, I don't think I'd use it here.

Desperately hoping this will be a boy now as I am smitten with the name! Need to convince dh though still. Thanks for the girl suggestions- we have Lena (full name Helena) on our girl list. I love clodagh but dh thinks it's too Irish (ridiculous given that all my family are Irish).

What about Jona for a girl?

I read it as Yo-nas too and wound assume there was some kind of Danish or German family link.

I quite like it pronounced wth the Jo sound now though

When I was pregnant with DD I loved Joni but since we already had a Jonas I thought we'd be the laughing stock of the nation

Very common among Swedish thirty-something's, pronounced ee-onas though Smile

I like it!
