Booked in for elcs next week. Still no name. Ideally I want something strong but not overly common/used. Came across Jonas last night. Just wondered what the general opinion was.

Naicecuppatea Thu 28-Jan-16 13:44:07

I love it and haven't heard it apart from a 12 year old boy I know.

Alisvolatpropiis Thu 28-Jan-16 13:48:36

I like it. Also like Jonah.

zippyswife Thu 28-Jan-16 13:50:21

The more I think of it the more I am completely loving it (also like Jonah too). It's now making me hope this baby is going to be a boy!! Just need to convince dh (who is stubborn and will probably
Immediately find a reason why he doesn't like it).

Love it.

Awesome song by Weezer called My Name Is Jonas.

NanaNina Thu 28-Jan-16 13:52:33

I think Jonas is a lovely name and so unusual.

zippyswife Thu 28-Jan-16 13:55:38

Thanks for the positivity! I think I'm so sold on this (it's only taken my 9 months to stumble upon it). If you could come up with an equally fab girls name I would be indebted!!

Sophronia Thu 28-Jan-16 14:14:21

I like it, I know one teenage Jonas who is German (pronounced yo-nas there).

Little 3 year old Jonas at Ds's nursery.

Angelto5 Thu 28-Jan-16 14:25:22

I like it.

It's also has a historical reference to the snow storm that swept the US last week.
Brilliant name.

enjoyingscience Thu 28-Jan-16 14:30:01

I've got one! He's lush, so I'd say go for it.

zippyswife Thu 28-Jan-16 14:35:14

Love the storm reference!

Enjoy does your Jonas have a sister? I'm trying to find an equally fab girls name (in case this isn't a boy!!)

enjoyingscience Thu 28-Jan-16 21:02:09

No, he's got a brother with a lovely, but much more common name!

Angelto5 Fri 29-Jan-16 06:44:23

Recent girl storm names-
Clodagh (sp?)
Eva (I prefer evangeline)

& the recent storm is Gertrude.

I imagine Jonas to have a sister called Lena pronounced lay-na

moreshitandnofuckingredemption Fri 29-Jan-16 06:58:27

I also think of the Weezer song, I like it

Mclaren37 Fri 29-Jan-16 07:00:34

Jonas is a very strong name, well done! I also love the timing with the storm, feels like it was meant to be and a great story for your son. We're in the U.S and it's still going strong in NYC. The most amazing snow storm - incredibley beautiful - I feel like I want to send you photos for posterity hehe! (Looks like you have some girl storm names on the post above too, just in case!)

GNRmama Fri 29-Jan-16 07:54:27

I have a Jonas and an Emmy smile

Pipistrella Fri 29-Jan-16 08:23:59

I don't know how you are thinking of saying it but I'd pronounce it 'Yonas' as it's Danish?

I don't like it pronounced the other way (with a strong J )

So knowing everyone in the UK would probably say it like that, I don't think I'd use it here.

zippyswife Fri 29-Jan-16 13:01:55

Desperately hoping this will be a boy now as I am smitten with the name! Need to convince dh though still. Thanks for the girl suggestions- we have Lena (full name Helena) on our girl list. I love clodagh but dh thinks it's too Irish (ridiculous given that all my family are Irish).

zippyswife Fri 29-Jan-16 13:13:08

What about Jona for a girl?

BettyBi0 Fri 29-Jan-16 13:16:54

I read it as Yo-nas too and wound assume there was some kind of Danish or German family link.

I quite like it pronounced wth the Jo sound now though

GNRmama Fri 29-Jan-16 16:33:00

When I was pregnant with DD I loved Joni but since we already had a Jonas I thought we'd be the laughing stock of the nation

scandichick Fri 29-Jan-16 16:34:41

Very common among Swedish thirty-something's, pronounced ee-onas though smile

I like it!
